Postby Willie makit » 03 04, 2014 •  [Post 1]

I see cabelas has the Oregon 550t on sale for 299$ In the bargain cave, I was going to try to hold out for the Montana but 1/2 the price is tempting, anyone have and recommend or not recommend this unit?

I have one and like it. Haven't had any problems with the unit. You need to keep the screen locked if you leave it turned on but would with the Montana as well. I think the Montana has a camera and a little bigger screen. I actually prefer the smaller Oregon. For half the money I'd get the Oregon.

I have an Oregon 450 that I have been using the past 2 years and would buy it again without hesitation so I would assume the 550 would be just as good or better. As jmez said, keep the screen locked especially if you have it in your pocket so none of the settings gets changed because it is a touch screen.

I will add they are tough on batteries. If you leave it on regular batteries will last about a day. Lithiums about three days.
