Ha! My dog's name is named Oscar also. He only hunts rubber Kong Frisbee's with the center cut out though; will catch everything you can throw He's a Boston Terrier mix. That goofball in the back of the yard by the target is a chocolate Mini Schauzer.. That one has issues. Beautiful hunting dogs guys!

My gwp after a day of shed hunting. She found a couple of them.

Shed hunting is the original reason I got my GWP, but where I live sheds are to few and far between so the training lapsed. He's more of a slipper finder now. Its cool to see the variety of hair color and length in the GWP's.

Here's our Dixie, she's an American Water Spaniel and a hunting fool!!! Bushytails to geese and everything in between.
I do believe that dogs make our lives a little better each day.





We had an American Water Spaniel when I was a pup in MT. I have never seen a more fearless icy water duck dog.

Amelia, aka, Useless with her one and only pheasant. She's a GSP that we rescued but the damage was done and she's gun shy. Now she's my training partner and foot warmer for the wife.



Now she points rabbits. All I have to do is shoot a gun and she'd be over them in a heart beat.



Bear, chocolate lab and she is one helluva bird dog. She's done more than I could have ever imagined for only getting out to hunt once a year during her prime. Unfortunately she's too old to hunt anymore.

Dad had a Brittany that was gun shy (neighbor peppered it with bird shot). He started de-sensitizing it by firing a .22 from a distance as it was getting fed, then was able to stand over it and fire a .22 as it was eating. Then he went to a .410, then 20 ga. It seems like it took a few months, but it helped enough that when hunting started the dog didn't run into the next county. If the dog is "birdy" enough to hunt hard, this might work.

Mine has the same love but its for a stuffed moose, well , it used to be stuffed. Now I just find pieces scattered in the yard that he still wants to play fetch with.

Had something similar and was able to make it work at the age of 9 (for the dog). Took two years of what you are describing with the first summer and fall being strictly hunting and having fun with a bb gun and slowly upgrading to a 22 I would fire off. Associating fun to the game is the trick. Depending on how bad she is, the slower you might need to go.

We recued a gwp but only had here a few months as she attempted to attack my mother in law. I just thought it ment the dog was an exceptional judge of character. We now have a gsp that is great, and everyone that meats him tries to steal him. We have had lots of dogs trying to find a seizure alert dog for my son, and had just placed the last a yellow lab pup that was salt in an open wound as our son passed away. My wife calls and says she found a dog and I couldn't believe she was even looking at dogs. But Pete has been quite the addition to our family that was still realling with the loss of our son.

heres my griff, 2 years old this month. had gwp before him, and a gsp before her. grew up with an American water spaniel, the mighty Velcro dog. took hours getting the burdocks out of her coat after a morning of duck hunting.....
