Indian Summer and Swede's new forum member's threads got so full of posts, they've sank! I'm not kidding, they're so heavy that they keep dropping down in the threads Thought I'd start a new one. For any of you new members that wish to give a shout out, here's your thread. Please do just a quick intro and pull up a chair by our campfire for the spring session of the Elknut forum.

Was invited by RJ, thanks bro. I live in Bonney Lake, WA and am new to hunting animals. Humans are a lot easier in my opinion. Went elk hunting last season in Colockum. Found the herd at 0130, but nothing the next day. Well until 4:30 pm a giant 4x4 mulie pranced out not more than 20 feet from me and paid me no mind. Went late season deer hunting and all I saw was a elk. I'm new to animal hunting and am seeking a hunting coach/mentor.

Great place to find elk info! I'm from Iowa and usually get to chase elk about every three years or so in Colorado. Using elknut's tactics has put the bulls in front of me but yet to get one. Again great site very professional and no silliness! Hoping I draw this year.

I've already posted a few times, but I'll give an introduction here.

Hi, I'm Joe, and I'm starting to realize I have a problem. While I've never actually hunted elk, I know a problem when I see it. It all started when I was a wee lad watching my father return home from hunting whitetails here in NY. I couldn't wait for the age where I could don the blaze orange and go bag a deer myself. Well, that time has come and gone, and I've taken my fair share of them.

A few years back, when I was working a summer job during college, I had some free time during the day, so I would fill it by reading hunting magazines. My dreams turned to hunting big game across the US. My dream hunt is still to take a big Kodiak brown bear with my bow. Bears, sheep, antelope... they filled my dreams. However, a poor college kid from the Eastern US doesn't have the time or money to hunt out west. After college, then comes a real job and more responsibility. Marriage, a house, and a kid put any out of state hunting dreams to rest.

Student loans are still a killer, but I'm 5 or 6 years into my career, so they don't seem quite so bad. The kid will be 3 this month so he isn't quite as demanding, and I think the wife is eager to get me out of the house.

I got the go-ahead from the wife for a 2015 CO hunt, so I'm all in. I've already been doing online scouting, making a gear list, and general planning. I think my wife already wants the trip to be over because that's all I can seem to think about. She thinks I've got a problem. I' have most of the necessary gear because I do a bunch of backcountry camping. There are just a few things that I have to buy. If this year was an option, I'm sure she would rather have me go. She thinks this is another "hair-brained" idea. I already have some odd hobbies including saltwater fish breeding and beekeeping. Hey, a man has to stay busy. right?

Anyways... Thanks for providing these forums. It seems like there's a good bunch of guys (and gals?). I've already learned a bunch.

Welcome. One of my elk hunting partners is from the Albany ny area. He was more than a little impressed with the size of the Rocky mtns when he first came west so be prepared. Good to have you here

Howdy,

I'm from Southeast Missouri and have only elk hunted once. Pretty much been hunting since I could walk and this elk thing is consuming me. My goal is to try an archery hunt somewhere in Idaho. Based off my one trip to Colorado I believe I will have to camp in the mountains with my camp on my back if I want to avoid other hunters. I'll take any advice I can get. I don't have a lot of mountain or elk hunting experience but I am determined.

Hi all, I am new to this forum and I am absolutely loving what I see so far. I got turned on to this site by an acquaintance, I am just getting back into bow hunting again after many years.
