Anyone heard of Elk Creek Outfitting?

I have been speaking with the owner of Elk Creek Outfitting in Montana about an archery hunt in 2015. Has anyone had any experience with this outfitter or heard anything. So far the research I have done looks good.

There are some nice mature bulls up in the Kootenai. But it's thick thick country. Not my cup of tea but some don't mind it. Phantom does some hunting up around Noxon so maybe he'll chime in with some words of wisdom. I know deer and elk numbers are down a bit up there after some rough winters. I don't know anything specific about that outfit though. Like I said though... there are some nice bulls there, good genetics.

Thanks, that is what it looked like. Is Kootenai and Lolo Nat forest open to the public to hunt? Looks like Heron, MT is way up North West almost to the BC border. Anyone have any thoughts on if More South West MT is a better area to hunt Elk than far North West MT?

Last time I crawled through the NW MT alder was three years ago. I can't remember if it was Elk Creek or Wayne Hill outfitters, but one of the local outfits successfully helped a couple of guys get bulls that year during the time I was hunting. Not sure about Elk Creek but I know Hill's outfit has been there for many years (since I was a pup). Yes, the Lolo and Kootenai NF's are open to public hunting. There are still "decent" populations of elk in the areas I hunted but there is some pretty significant hunting pressure (although not too much the farther you get away from the roads/trails), there is a pretty good system of looooong gated roads and old pack trails to hunt in on, and yes sir, there are a bunch of wolfs on both sides of the Clark Fork River (E and W). To the W of the river is the Noxon/Heron areas which aren't too bad. To the E and NE of the river is the Cabinet MT Wilderness area which is a good backcountry hunting destination but you'll share your hunting areas with a pretty significant brown bear population. Some decent bulls still running around there for sure. Got close to a few but none of them came home with me that year Good luck!

Can't help you this year but if you want an outfitted bow hunt in 2015 I can set you up with Indian Summer Outfitters. Drop camp, semi or fully guided. Way better chance of just seeing elk not to mention killing in the Bitterroot than up there in the "jungle".
