The pressure is on!

I have been experimenting all winter with dehydrating my own meals for this season coming up. I've got beef jerky down, and fruit, fruit roll-ups (fruit leather) etc. The stuff is coming out excellent!

So, my son asked if he could bring a bag of dehydrated fruit to share with his "friend" as they are allowed to eat a snack in class...and he happens to sit right next to his first real crush. He has a huge crush on this girl and figured, What better way to impress a girl than to bring her some dried, brown, wrinkled up fruit. Sure, no problem, I said! Apparently she really enjoyed it.

Well, the girl brought in a bag of ELK jerky to share with my son. So, of course my son rants and raves over the snack and asks where she got the elk jerky. "Oh, my dad shot one last fall with his muzzle loader", she says. My son then asked where he hunted...yup, he was in the same game unit we were in.

Now my son is determined I need to get an elk so he can bring her in some of our homemade elk jerky.

Eesh...I thought elk hunting was supposed to be fun...not I've got all kinds of pressure to be successful!

How old is your son? I assume not old enough yet to get his own elk? That would impress the girl way more!

Family pressure. I understand that. When I spend the money I do on elk hunting, my wife fully expects me to bring home a bunch of elk steaks.

This will be his first year that he is old enough to hunt for big game, so yes, I certainly told him he has to contribute as much as I do. However, being the nice guy that I am...I will put the brunt of the objective directly on my shoulders to do what I can to ensure success. (This is only my second year hunting so.......)

It's the closest unit to our town, It's certainly no honey-hole!

I'm more upset my boy isn't bringing me any of that jerky!
