Do mouth reeds make you gag ?

I am subject to this. Not all the time but sometimes. Any tips?

Keep your reed closer to the front of your mouth. The farther it is back, the more you are going to gag. The other thing to do is practice with it until you have found a comfortable fit.

Thankfully no, especially since many of my coyote sounds require me to have the reed more or less on the soft portion of my palate right at the back of my throat.

If you struggle with the gag issue it may be worth it to try a reed from Wapiti River - contact Wapiti here on the forum. The tape on his reeds is designed to be more form fitting and there isn't as much excess tape - has helped a few people I know with gag issues.

I have been practicing with a reed in the cheek and moving it into position. The Primos reeds with a raised plate are a PITA sometimes as they tend to land upside down or off center. Only then is when I almost hurl. My son always laughs because it makes my eyes water like crazy and of course the gag reflex is kind of funny anyway.
