Wyoming Bound!!!

Postby LckyTylr » 02 24, 2014 •  [Post 1]

I drew a General Tag for Wyoming! :-)

You know . . . the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. I'll be hunting Idaho on weekends, and making two 5 days trips to Wyoming this year for Elk. I have a wide variety of season dates and weapons to use . . . so I have a lot of scouting and research to do.

I'm Super Excited!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on where to start looking.

Wow Tyler, sweet! Wish I had some solid info for you but have none! Hopefully someone will give you some direction, if not the homework & planning stages are equally exciting! Good Luck!

Thanks everyone. My friend (also drew) and I have been on the phone with some of the biologists over the last few months. We are hoping to get two bonsai weekend scouting trips in to at least get a lay of the land and hopefully get eyes on the prize.

Now . . . the training starts. Ugh!

Question on the Wyoming General Tag, do they sell out??? Or can they be purchased after the draw??

No Herb. They sell out. But in July the list of leftover licenses will be out so you can still get bull tags that way. Not General licenses though. Otherwise, buy a point online this summer from July 1 to September 30th and get next year's app in by January 31st.

Thanks. I actually will be hunting WY this year with a General Tag, just was wondering if my buddy that missed the draw could pick one up.

I should add, I'm really looking forward to some new country. This will be my first elk hunt in Wyoming.

The OTC area in Colorado that has served us well for many years was over ran by the hunting masses last year, I was ready for a change.

Lucky dog!
We didn't get drawn. The unit we put in for, we would have had 100% draw odds last year and every year before with our points. We called the Wyoming Game and Fish Dept, and they said we would draw it, no problem. This year, I guess the demand for it exploded, because we weren't even close.

Just means that we are going OTC in Colorado instead. Gotta really get to running and exercising now, will be hunting about 2,000 ft higher!

Congrats on the draw. Points for us again this year in Wyoming. Can't wait for the day when we see "successful" next to my dad and I's name.

jrnorton... keep in mind you can get guaranteed licenses in Montana. Application deadline is March 15th.

My partner and I drew Wyoming General tags and gained a point.

Now to put together a plan for Montana....... or should I say find the time for it!

Congrats on drawing!
We are actually going to go where my buddies have gone a few times before; they have alot of good spots already scouted. I've never been, but am looking forward to seeing this place and trying to get a plan together to start hunting it for the next few years.
