One scouting trip?

Postby BarW » 02 20, 2014 •  [Post 1]

If you could only make one scouting trip to Colorado to put boots on the ground and hang trail cams. Would you go the last week in July it the second week in August? Why?

2nd week of August. Assuming you will be hunting archery season, I would think the elk's patterns would be more similiar in August to what they hopefully will still be when you are out hunting.

I am planning to go about the 18th of July this year. The cameras should be fine until I return just before the start of hunting season. I hope to see more of the elk's patterns of use. I am especially interested in seeing how often they show up and the variety of elk coming around. I think one week up is much better than none, but 6 weeks is better than one.

True, I didn't pay close enough attention to what weeks, just saw the month and assumed there was a greater time difference :D . I would change my answer to July as well. I'll be placing trail cameras for the first time this season and want to give them plenty of time to better analyze the data.

I'm thinking July would be best myself as I plan to place a few cams.

Not big difference either way as most bulls will move a little sometime mid august as the bachelor groups break up and the start to get worked up for the pre rut.
