Thoughts on Single Pin bow sights

Curious about experienced guys thoughts on using a single pin bow sight for elk. Not completely sold on switching over from multi pin. Maybe it is whatever you practice with enough and become proficient with, just not sure about all the variables if an animal makes an unexpected turn or jumps/runs out a bit seeing you draw or smells you. Would like to know from guys that use or have used them. Thanks.

I used a single pin slider for 6 years hunting whitetail and love it but I changed it for a 4 pin sight before my elk hunt last year for the same reasons you stated in your post. This subject was discussed here a while back if you do a search there is a lot of info in that thread.

I switched to a single pin last summer and did well with it. I like it. You better hope that critter comes in at where you are ranging though,because all the extra movement can cost you a shot or an elk.

Where are you going to hunt elk? Is it thick or semi open. Are you calling elk solo or working with a team of guys? What I am getting at is what do you anticipate your AVERAGE shot distance to be? My average is 17 yards calling solo, 34 yards is a long one usually for me. I do use a Montana Black Gold single pin slider. I usually set it at 25 yards. I almost never move it. Depending on your draw length you can set your pin for a longer distance,depending on how fast your setup is. You can also make a drop chart by shooting and walking back to say 50 yards or even more if you want . make a chart and tape it to your bow limb for quick reference. My buddy Alan got rid of his pins and went to the same slider I have and just loves it.Now he can practice at over 120 yards.

I switched to a HHA single pin sight last year because I was going to hunt from a treestand. When fires kept us away we did the run and gun thing. For running and gunning multiple pins are better in my opinion, you can pick the correct pin for the correct distance and not fumble trying to change your sight. Missed an opportunity at an elk trying to adjust the sight last year. This year I plan to hunt from a treestand BUT with the multiple pin sight.

Went to a HHA slider this past fall. Won't go back to mutiple pins. I love the clear sight picture. My elk & deer last fall...not so much
