Which elknut package

I have zero experience with elk calls and calling. I can use a turkey mouth call pretty well. Which elk it package would you guys reccomend for a beginner wanting to learn and practice the elk dialogue?

I would go with #3. the sounds of elk and the bugling bull 1-4, the one im not seeing is the worse than wolves dvd. where did it go paul? I have all these dvds in my collection. ive ordered a couple of copies of the playbook in three yrs. I would recommend the chuckler tube and get a few different types of reeds to see what ones fit you best. id recommend the mellow yellow for starters and my personal favorite, the all star. the raging bull is another one of my favs, the challenger is another call I can get good tones out of. personally id stay away from the herd master. I found this call hard to manipulate. the mini master is another good call, killed my bull with it. I wouldn't suggest the closer, or the estrus excited elk call for the time being. im struggling to get the sounds I want out of them right now, a little harder than I thought it be.

Chuckler EL Starter Kit. I'd also grab DVD #4. Gives you absolutely everything you could ever need to be successful.

Edit - The inclusion of the Fightin' Cow Call in the EL Starter Kit is very nice. I couldn't tell you how many bulls I've called in with that open reed when nothing else would work.

I think a very good package deal for a new elk caller is package deal #9. This package provide the Chuckler EL Grunt Tube Bugle, Mastering the Mouth Reed one hour instructional DVD, Mellow Yellow & The Challenge mouth reeds. The ElkNut's Playbook (worth it's weight in gold IMO), Sounds by the Elk CD w/bonus MP3 (very, very good CD to help one understand the various types of elk sounds "and" practice with), and Vol 4 DVD Worse Than Wolves, 2 hours in length. I would recommend you order a few extra diaphragms to practice with this summer. Those are just my thoughts. You should send Elknut1 a PM and ask what he would recommend. Be carefull with this elk hunting/calling stuff, it can be quite addicting Good luck. RJ

I like the idea of visiting with Paul. He may ask you just what you are hunting for. Is any legal elk fine? Are you looking only for a large bull? Is calling the primary means you plan to use to get elk?

Anything from Elknut helps tremendously, but the hardcopy playbook and audio version are my regular go-to materials. And after turkey season the audiobook becomes my daily workout playlist. It really helps to familiarize yourself with the language and understand why you might (or might not) want to make certain sounds in certain situations. Have fun, and good luck during turkey season!

Unless the audiobook has a lot of hard rock music I doubt it replaces my workout playlist!!!! Not a bad idea though.
