It would be great to share as much info as possible with all by doing it here on the Forum. That is a big reason how & why this ElkNut Forum came about, I was receiving 50-100 emails a week on the very thoughts & questions that are talked about here daily, I felt that if there were those that needed this kind of assistance that contacted me then there must be many more out there with the same questions! This has been the case & a great resource for learning. Many here are interested in every facet of Elk Hunting including map reading, elk calling or just basic questions that many may have before they head out on their elk hunts. Many are lurkers that only read the shared info, we'd hate to leave them out or any for that matter, many that are now members used to be lurkers so they are now part of the receiving & sharing & that is awesome. This Forum is for all who desire to learn & better themselves as elk hunters. Let's Pass It On!

Of course PM's are best suited when asking about specific areas or units when they would rather not share specifics with the Internet world!

As you know I have shared many, many things on this forum.

At times there are certain specific questions or answers that do not need to be shared.
That is why I used the 'specific' term in my original post.

Also, I'd advise that no one share their email address on public forums. Spam spiders and bots will harvest it. That's why we have a 3 post minimum PM restriction on all new accounts.

Posting here on the forum has several benefits:
1. Many people can read and learn from an answer. It may be a question they have had, or be something they never considered. Many people benefit.
2. It sure has given me a broader perspective of what it is like to hunt places I have never been.
3. By having an open discussion, sheds more light on a matter and even some misconceptions are cleared up. The person with the question, gets several people to answer. I just read down the thread about blood trails and broad heads. I feel the person who started that thread, got a lot more information to help them, than any one of us supplied.

I just answered an email asking about a specific possible campsite and the condition of the access road.
Since I was familiar with the area, I helped out.

Discussions regarding broad heads/blood trails/etc would be best posted here
Campsites and the like, not so much. Wouldnt be fair to the person requesting the info.

For those that want to keep geographic information private but need help, they can use me for Eastern Oregon because I've hunted almost everywhere. Probably Indian for Montana, Paul for Idaho, and RJ for Washington.

I offered to help with parts of Oregon. I did not mean to include MY camp or tree stand locations. I heard that I could kill elk in a Safeway parking lot. I know where there are a lots of supermarkets here in Oregon. I know a few other places too. One of those "other places" is where Stringunner camps.

Swede, funny you mention sharing your camp! My son & I have done this with over a 100 hunters, some were met right here on the internet. We generally take various hunters out every year as we enjoy the calling aspect very much. We do our best to help as many as possible & within reason of course but will share hard earned methods & techniques with just about anyone that desires to learn.

This Forum has allowed not only us but all of you to expand on this giving aspect that many share so freely, it doesn't get much better than that. I personally would like to give a big thanks to those you are so generous with info that can help cut many years off of the learning curve! Yes, this Site is a must have to the serious elk hunter & the not so serious ones! (grin)

I am very grateful for the opportunity to read and learn from everyone here in this forum. I have learned a great deal on this site since I became a member last year. I don't have a wealth of personal knowledge on elk hunting even though I have been hunting elk since 2004 off and on when I get the chance. Since I live in the Midwest and not in elk country, I take everything from this sight as 'a hands on learning' experience' and then apply it when I am out in the field. Putting an elk on the ground is just a bonus for me...being in the mountains chasing these majestic animals is the reward itself for me. Every season I am learning something new in the field. That's what I love about elk hunting. There is always gonna be a scenario that's going to challenge you no matter how good of an elk hunter you are.

I love hunting. Being from the Northeast, I enjoy reading and dreaming about hunting animals all over North America. I was fortunate to hunt elk for the first time this past fall and hope to do it again one day. I recently learned of this forum. I am thankful for the experience it offers and the generosity of others with respect to your vast knowledge and advice related to training, equipment, tactics and strategies. Over the past several years, I've have been inspired and have learned a great deal from the posts and pm's from people including Elknut, Indian Summer, Sawdust, Cnelk and others who have helped make some of my hunting dreams a reality.

In turn, I enjoy helping others when I can. Though I am a self-proclaimed "lurker" of this site, I would much rather be in the position of offering advice based on years of experience and knowledge which would ultimately mean I hunted elk a lot more!
