Whats your list?

I'm sitting here at work thinking of the long list of things I need (lets me honest, some of them I just plain want ) to get before the season starts just 7 short months from now. It's way to early in the year to have elk fever, heck I still have all summer to fly fish, but figured it may be of help to list out some of things on your "to do list" between now and september. Might conjure up things we havn't thought of yet too! Heres mine so far

- new bow (i've been using an old browning bow passed to me a friend and I think its time to upgrade, currently looking at a diamond infinite edge)
- hiking shoes for the summer (get into a little better shape for elk)
- mountain bike (see above, haha)
- 4 piece pack fly rod (will promote more frequent scouting trips if I can combine it with some fishing)
- 1 or 2 trail cameras
- RAIN GEAR (last year was crazy)
- backpacking tent (fun summer activity to combine with scouting)
- range finder (lost mine somehow )
- oh and the most important! Trying to decide which package of Elknuts' material to buy..

I'm sure theres more I've missed, camofire is a new favorite site that I JUST found out about and now is a constant obsession. AHHH the list is never ending and there just never seems to be enough time or dinero!

I'm pretty set on my gear, clothing, etc., but need to get a few items:

Dozen arrows to fletch up
New insert for Rhinehart block target
New string for bow
A quality gas can to haul extra fuel in my quad trailer (ID hunt)
A handfull of tree stand goodies (bow hangar, retracting gear hoist, few more lightweight steps to go with my climbing sticks, better seat)
Have one of elkmtngear's slip systems coming in the mail (will deploy as a ground blind in a few spots)

#3 replace one of my shirts that got thrashed last year.

#1 picking up a muzzleloader on tuesday. hoping to have either muzzie or modern season off. the september archery season is just way too damned hot, with too many bees crawling all over me all the time.

#2 having an old rifle of mine tricked out as we speak, just in case i get the elk modern off.

#3 not going to lie to myself, im sure ill be buying at least a few more trail cams by this spring. 11 just doesnt feel like enough anymore. its a sickness

Well for me I just bought some backpacking rain gear and ordered a new carbon spyder! Now if anyone needs a bow I have a bowtech allegiance70# for 350 and an alpha max 70# rh 28.5 draw for $450

dunno if youre set on a certain brand but if i were you id check out the browning spec ops. not the range ops or recon force tho, those ones arent very good. the spec ops is great tho. cheapest ive found it is wal-mart.com for $147

Buy an EXO pack. ( my blue widow worked great as did my nemo tent but I'm on a weights shedding kick) With my new pack and tent I'll save 5-6lbs

Some dirt bags decided they needed my stuff a little more then I did last year. They stole two game cams, my self climber, a ground blind and my blind chair. Wouldn't you love to catch someone in the act of stealing your stuff? So needless to say I have to re stock. Already found a good deal on some game cams. Just deciding on what climber to go with.

Need a set of riding saddle panniers. As always I need to stock up on some mountain house meals.

But one thing I've been meaning to do for a couple years now is get down to a shooting club in West Virginia and map out the number of clicks on my scope out to 1000 yards. I'm not so sure that will come into play when hunting because getting closer than that isn't a problem. But you never know. The main thing is I want to see my gun do what I know it's capable of doing. I probably need to do some reloading first.

On the home front... I got word of a huge 7 by 7 whitetail living right in my home woods. He's probably crossed my property a few times. I want to dedicate my entire deer season to getting a shot at that buck. For starters I'd just like to see him. A non-hunter in a business nearby spilled the beans that my neighbor showed him a trail cam pic. I was just there to make sure they didn't mind me shooting rabbits on their property when he asked if had heard about the monster. He was freaking out...... he said "Absolute freakin' monster, I didn't know they got that big!" hmmmm

I would like to get another self inflating pad so my wife could come along for a night or two

One in our group took one last year and the other two of us were jealous sitting on logs and the ground while the other guy was so comfortable. Rei is selling one that is a little lighter actually. I won't purchase until late summer so I haven't been price shopping yet

I need to get a new Garmin Rino 655 gps.($500+) What really peeves me off about it, is I got one last year. Somehow it fell out of my pocket while whitetail hunting. The next day I looked all over on the route I took from my treestand and couldn't find it. I'm sure some pheasant hunter picked it up since most of the route was through tall grass and this public land is stalked with birds and frequented by many pheasant hunters. My son has one so I need another to use its features on our upcoming hunt.

You can bet I''ll be more careful with the next one.
