Watches???

Do you guys wear a watch anymore? A lot of guys I know don't anymore, with their phone always present, they don't need an additional time piece. However, I've been thinking of getting one. I don't want to spend a ton on one, but wanted to get some input on what you guys wear, and what hand? I wear a stretch bracelet every single day on my left wrist, in memory of a good friend that passed away, that says "Get Busy Livin'", which honestly helps motivate me when I'm being a bump on a log. I only say that because it doesn't interfere with holding or drawing my bow, but will a watch? I don't know if i'd like wearing one on my right wrist...
Are there other features you want in a watch besides the time?

i feel naked without a watch. pulling out my phone to check the time seems like a waste of motion to me. and i am a watch FREAK! if i were rich, i would own some awesome watches..but i am not.

i have some high end watches i wear when i have a suit on..basically NEVER.

so, my daily watch is a Casio Pathfinder. not sure if it is discontinued or not. the watch does it all. altimeter, barometer, compass.. it is getting beat up, but works wonderful.

i am considering selling a gold Rolex my dad left for me to buy something more my style, but it is difficult selling my dad's favorite watch. maybe someday.

and there is no way, i would wear a watch on my right. that would be awkward. my left watch doenst affect my bowshots. but a watch and wrist release cannot share the same arm. too much bulk, i think

Just my thoughts I'm a lefty so I wear my watch on the right side. Why? Well I think that is the arm that would deliver the least amount of shock to a time piece. Think about stuff like swinging a hammer!

Also, I prefer and analog watch over one with a digital read out. Just an El Cheapo Timex with hands on it. I've used it as a compass many times. Also, I use my watch a lot when calling elk. It's a timing thing, especially for my silent calling setups. It keeps me from repeating the sequence too quickly. Same goes for answering a bugling bull. I don't answer them any quicker that they answer me. I find that this forces the bull to pick up the pace and makes me appear to be a little less dominate.

funny timing (<--a pun!) for this thread.

just saturday..i walked into a high end watch shop. i have seen a watch that i liked. IWC chronograph watch..the TOPGUN model. i had ZERO clue as to what it was gonna cost. i saw that the watch was worn by Jason Bourne, in those movies. hahah..naturally i had to check it out.

the lady gave me a wierd look when i asked, "do you have a IWC topgun?". she pulls out this badass watch..huge, bulky..tough looking. it was awesome. she then said.."it is $13,000"..i laughed and apologized for wasting her time. she then leads me to a watch that she feels is more in my budget..some Omega Seamaster...$6000..hahah.. i really wasted her time.

opps. i would remodel my kitchen with that kinda money first. there is a crazy world out there.

I am a righty, watch is on my left wrist. I prefer the old trusy Timex Ironman. Costs around $30 and usually lasts me about 5 years before I tear it up and need a new one. I do use it a lot while doing my cardio and feel naked without it.

I wear an inexpensive watch on my hunting trips. Like WW, I prefer an analog watch for the same reason he mentioned (back up navigation system). For those of you who don't know, it works like this:

"You can determine a north/ south line by using an analog watch (one with hands). Hold the watch horizontal and point the hour hand at the sun. Bisect the angle between the hour hand and 12 o’clock to get the north south line. If there is a doubt as to which is north, remember the sun rises in the east and sets in the west and is due south at noon. The sun will be in the east before noon and in the west after noon. The time must not be adjusted for daylight savings time. If your watch is set on daylight savings time, use the midway point between the hour hand and 1 o’clock."

I use one of the Timex Expeditions (pic below). These watches also have an alarm which is nice. I think they cost about 30 bones ..

Like WW I am a lefty, but I still wear my watch on my left hand. I shoot right handed, so maybe I am just confused. Some thing I do left handed, and others I do with my right. I have had a watch on my arm since I was a kid. Mine is a stretch band sicko, er, I mean Seiko. It is simple too. No music, no alarm clock, no horoscope, no nothing.

In a pinch you can imagine hands on a watch for navigating right?

I have al Casio anolog from Costco. $100. I bet it would survive a missile strike. I wear it backpacking as well.

I love it because it is my alarm clock...flashes blue and beeps. I put it in the little sleeve right over my face in the ceiling of the Fly Creek Ul2 tent.

I usually have to replace these watches about every 5 to 7 years, and it is always because the band breaks, not the watch. It never comes off (unless I'm using it for alarm purposes), I shower, swim with it, etc.

I only wear a watch during archery season while Im hunting.
The cheapest watch Walmart sold on sale for $3.99. Been working for 5 years
I like to keep track of the time , sunset, times since spotting game, trailing, tracking , since a shot etc.

Do as RJ stated here. But the easiest way to determine which way is north or south, just remember that half way between the hour hand and 12 o'clock is always south. And don't forget to take in to account for accuracy you need to be on standard time. Many guys with whiskers call it sun time.

I suppose if you were south of the equator, half way between the hour hand and 12 o'clock would be north. But no need here to confuse the issue

Thanks Phantom for posting that watch. I think that will be my replacement for the el cheapo digital watch I've been using in the woods.

The only time I wear a watch anymore is hunting. 20 bucks. And plastic band, less metal in the cold temps the better.

Hunting is one of the few times I wear a watch. A cheap ironman watch with a black rubber band. I'm left handed and wear it on my left hand. For me it takes little movement to see the time. And we don't take our cellphones because service is seldom available and its extra weight for the possibility its usable.

I have same Timex as Phantom. I NEVER take it off. (Shower, running, gutting a deer, etc) I like it so much that I bought an exact replacement when my first one failed after about 4 years. I like the combo of analog and digital, the band seems to not stink as much, (Leather would develop a permanent funk), and the face size fits my wrist.

For me, I like the convenience of quickly checking time. If I am hunting, phone is too much. (Elk hunting I may have phone off due to lack of signal). When I run, I have my Garmin set for running stats and not time.

I am right handed and wear it on my left.
