What bowstring?

Needing to replace my z7 string and cable and wondering what brand of strings you guys using?my string is original zebra 4 years old

ive only had craters archery put strings on my bows but im really looking at pro-line strings, they offer a three color option.

I prefer custom shop strings over the large manufacturers. Buy em at your local shop!

I used a string made by carters archery last year and was very pleased. The string did not stretch at all. He offers a service where you send him your bow and he sets it up for you. I did that, but don't recommend it. I plan to get another set of his strings this summer but will just order the strings and install them myself. If you aren't set up to install yourself, you could have a local shop do it or send him your bow.

I've had some bad experiences with vapor trail and no longer recommend them. Mostly string stretch issues. They also sent me two different sets of strings/cables that were the wrong length which was an honest mistake, but it happened twice to me and twice to my hunting partner, so it seems to be an issue with them.

It seems to me that the different manufacturers are all using the same materials and basically the same techniques from what I've seen, so why would it matter which one you choose? I have been using Winners Choice and PSE strings. I can't tell any difference. Can anyone explain why brand X is any better than brand Y?

I agree with swede. There are proprietary "recipes" for strings out of about a half dozen materials so stretch (Which is bounce back like a rubberband) creep (which is actually what is what most people call stretch, it doesn't return to original length) and abrasion resistance can vary. If you shoot alot you should change strings and cables every few years, so any quality string should keep a combination of the three variables at aminimum for that time period. The only issue I've seen with custom strings is that fhe builders dont stock the variety of materials a factory would. Also many times string builders don't build under adequate tension so I see more creep on new strings. Factory built strings therefore seam more stable. Remember 1/4" of creep in a timing cable will INCREASE a bows poundage about 10 lbs. but throw the timing way off. Strings are like running shoes. Some guys see the value with high end and are willing to pay for it, but for many average shooters they won't notice the difference, so they might as well spend their money on something else. Stone mountain, zebra, vaportrail, and barracuda are all great and reasonable and a good choice for the average shooter.

for me, it is all about the craftsmanship.

some bowstring makers do amazing serving work. remember back when nobody did served end loops? now everyone does. and some guys make the tightest, neatest ends.

i run Winner's choice, and i get awesome performance. but the serving is only serviceable..they are not breaking any aesthetic records. i need new strings "now" so i ordered winner's choice. (owned by Elite, and i shoot an Elite). if i had time..i would use Center Spot, or Taz..those guys make them neat. (if i took closeup photos of my ends..you could see bulges, and stuff).

and...they follow elite specs. every string/cable length is to be measured at 100lbs. they get them perfect and package them perfect. you just pull them out, make sure you dont twist or untwist anything..put them on, and you are supposed to be very close to bow spec. never done it myself, so it is hearsay.

my bother had prolines or something. they serving ends look solid..they are wrapped that tight and neat.

oh, when i shot my Z7, i used World's best strings. that guy adds 5/8th inch to the string. you install his strings and your bow will pull a perfect 70lbs with the limbs maxed. being a single cam, i think he knows where he can fudge lengths and not affect timing. (well, there really isnt a timing issue)

I am on my second set of Prostring string. I used the last set for 5 years. I only replaced it because of fuzz on the string from rubbing my clothing while carrying the bow. I can shoot my bow from -10 to 95 degrees and allways have my peep rotate to a clear view. I also like the choice of colors

Before anyone tears apart their bow do 2 things. Measure the poundage and mark the cam where the limb crosses its face. Some bows will already have a timing mark on the cams that will align with the limb or buss cable. Write it down and keep it. It will give you a reference when you get the new string and/or cables(s) installed. If the old string or cable has crept these references with be wrong buts it's where you left off so its the place to start retuning the bow. Double check the poundage after the new string is on by cranking the limbs down all the way and backing them out a 1/4 turn. (Never shoot a bow with the limbs cranked tight) The bow should be at rated poundage, however many bows from the factory will go above rated poundage 3-4 pounds.
