need some bow equip advice. changing out my peepsight.

i got a new bowsight. the ring is smaller and the mount is longer. DUH!

my 1/4" peep will be too big..no doubt. i now have a 3/16th peep on my bench.

changing it out. do i need a string separator? or can i unknot the current peep and simply press my bow to loosen the grip?

i do not have a string sep..but i do have a decent travel press.

If you have a peep already in the string, you can use a ball point pen but be very careful. Put a dot of whiteout to mark the position of the old peep. Remember you will lose some light entering your eye with the smaller peep. For me I like the larger peep and can get a very accurate site picture making concentric rings with the peep and site housing(aperature). the peep is blurry anyway.

I agree with timberland. It is fine to have the peep opening larger than the sight ring, your eye will center it and your accuracy will be fine. If you want to change your peep, pressing the bow will work, mark the spot and slide the knots up and down a little.

Same thought as Toby and Timberland. Change if you want, but I use a very large hole for all of my shooting. I especially prefer the larger diameter hole for those evening shots.

Are you thinking about trying to center the sight guard in the peep. If so, try moving the sight in closer to the riser instead of having it extended out. If you decide to go with the smaller peep, you don't need a press or a string separator. Here is how I would do it if I already had an existing peep in the string.

First of all mark the strung with white-out as mentioned above in another post. Then insert something in the string before you remove the old peep. Now you can remove the old peep and cut the serving away from it. Then, you can insert the new peep, remove what ever you placed in the string to hold it open, slide the peep up to the white-out mark, and serve it in.

Everything should automatically line up and shoot the same as before. Just in case this is confusing, go to www.bowtuningtips.com. You'll find a wealth of information there.

Have you considered ditching the peep, altogether? I know it's hard to do at first, but I did it, with the help of a NoPeep, and I'll never go back to a peep again. It seems like such a hindrance, looking back. The NoPeep isn't made, anymore, but there's other options out there like the Anchor Sight.

i like a peep.

shooting without one is like shooting a rifle with only a front sight..and relying on my cheek being perfectly set on the rifle stock everytime.

i bet i could do a no peep set up if all my shots were the same. add some mountainous terrain variables..and i would shoot arrows into the horizon. i find comfort with lining up two points. peep for me. i just know me.

No, that's what the NoPeep and Anchor Sight do. They give you a point of reference to maintain a consistent anchor. I shoot more accurately with that than I did with a peep.

I don't think that nick is terminal. I'd wax it and shoot it until you need to replace your string. Late July would be good timing. It looks like from tge pic, you still need to serve your peep in. Don't just leave it free-floating.

Conventional wisdom is to shoot a large peep for hunting , small for target. Can't remember if mine is 3/16" or 1/4". I like the sight picture of my sight housing perfectly surrounded by the peep. It seems easier to center and double check my anchor in the heat of the moment. But I'm just a beginner. Find what works for YOU. Some guys shoot fine with both eyes open for example. My groups turn to crap when I try it...

this wasn't on your new elite was it? the one good outlook on it is you can now get customized strings on your bow. heres another thing ive used before I had my press. I can send it to ya. I don't need it anymore.

I wouldn't shoot that. I did the exact same thing on a bow once, trying to do the same thing. I figured it was fine, and I kept shooting. Eventually, my luck ran out. When I released, the string snapped. The bow shot from my hand, the string left a nasty whelp on my face, and the arrow broke in several pieces which destroyed my Whisker Biscuit and sent slivers of carbon through the rubber shelf. All in all, I was lucky it wasn't worse for me.
