Colorado GMU 85

Starting to do a little research for our next trip in 2015. Talked to an outfitter today, Colorado Twin Peaks. Hunts are in gmu 85. Any thoughts on this area? getting ready to start sorting through all the info I can find but would like some first hand knowledge of the GMU if anybody has or does hunt there.

No first hand knowledge here, but I can tell you that 85 holds some large bullls. There isn't a whole lot of public land, so I think that might deter some people. Definitely check references, but I think that is an excellent place to potentially have a guided hunt.

Twin Peaks Ranch, look 'em up on CPW website, Ranching for Wildlife section. There are maps, terrain descriptions, etc. Also check CO Outfitters' Assoc. website. The ranch occupies the south side of Spanish Peaks. Unit 85 has an awesome elk herd, many of which spend most of their time on the private property that dominates the unit. And there's bears... The Dog Bar... beautiful country around Cuchara.

I'm also looking at 85. The San Isabel NF sure looks like a big enough tract of public land?

I'm sure it is big enough to hunt, but the unit itself is 75% private. Just something to think about.
