Will this years moon affect your hunt this sep?

I noticed that this years full moon will be Sep 8th,Will this be changing anyone's plans for date selection?hunting prerut vs. peak?

Not really it just depends on if and what hunt I get drawn for. We'll hunt the 10 days of the season regardless.

I have killed several elk on the evening of a full moon or near full moon. I think it is great, as you get more light to butcher and pack out. It won't change my plans, but I like it.

Moon light does make packing much easier

Another nice thing about the full moon is that some hunters have this idea that it effects elk movement, so they stay home. I have killed more elk at or near the full moon that at any other time. Maybe it is because the woods are less disturbed by hunters. I definitely think the full moon has more of an affect on hunters than elk.

We have a wall tent camp 7 miles up a drainage and on last years full moon we had a herd bull and harem at 75 yrds for over 2 hours screaming and rutting in the middle of the night. My brother and I snuck up to a rock pile to get visual of it and it had to be on of the neatest 2 hours of elk interaction I've ever seen. They were in the meadow doing what elk do at the peak of rut and we caught it all in the full moon! Just awesome. We ended up packing our stuff quietly and crossing the creek and ascending around them to to a position of 800' above them to wait for first light. My brother shot a 300" satellite that morning. What a event! The full moon is on my birthday this year and I hope I am blessed with an opportunity at a full moon monster!

For sure. I fish the full moons for muskies with clearly better results... a couple hundred in a single week! Got 56 in one day on a full moon, a couple good ones too.

Indian summer, are you fishing for them durning the day or night and what time of year are you fishing for them? I fish for Muskie at lake st. Clair in June every year and I never caught that many! Full moon or not! I would love to pick your brain on Muskie fishing. My brother and I are lucky to catch two a day.

Day. June. I was the founder and president of the Three River Chapter of Muskies Inc in Pennsylvania. I always say if you have anything left in you to night fish you haven't fished hard enough during the day. You are looking at Lake St Clair in that picture. We have it mastered. I guarantee you nobody has it figured out like we do. No even the locals including Spencer Berman and the guys who cast and fish the river. My daily records: 27, 38, 43, 47, & 56. Multiple fish over 50 in a single day a couple times. My wife caught two over 50 one day including this 55 and lost another this big at the boat the same day. She'd kill me if she knew I put this pic online. Long rough day. lol I'll give you one solid pointer: Every one of them is caught on a Wiley Lure. Dale Wiley is my fishing partner and I'm not allowed to use anything else. (I'm not complaining!)

That lake can beat you up so bad that if I were getting only 2 a day I'd be out of there. I'm not kidding you we get two at the same time (doubles) all the time. Had a triple once or twice.

I don't know if it has any effect on elk but it sure makes those 4 am hike-ins a lot easier. I will also hunt later when I know I've got a full moon to see by hiking back to camp.

There's no doubt that the moon effects fishing. Not only do I pay attention to the moon phase but also the times of moonrise and moonset. I can about say 5, 4, 3, 2 , 1 BANG! when muskie fishing. Actually... I've done that many times. Blows people's minds, even my boat partners. Here's two more full moon muskies caught 45 minutes apart by the other boat in our cottage. 54 3/4 incher and a 55.

But I still see no reason to plan hunting around moon phases. I've heard people say "Oh they'll be out feeding all night with that full moon and be bedded up all day" Really? They feed every night. They can see in the dark. How can that make a difference to a basically nocturnal animal? Also... what if it's cloudy????? If it's the rut it's the rut. If you're gun hunting and it's not the rut they won't hide in a different place because of a moon phase. In my experience you can forget the moon and just hunt.

It's easy to be good at things if you only do two things: Elk hunt and muskie fish. I figured a long time ago if I'm going to hunt deer I might as well hunt the biggest ones in the lower 48 and if I'm going to fish I'm going after the king of freshwater fish. I hunt turkeys but that's easy and Pa deer hunting sucks so you don't shoot a monster every year no matter what you know or do.

I'm there in June for the last three years and am lucky to catch 2-5 a day and not many big one! Any help you could give me would be great . I'm talking boat speed,depth of lure and what lures. I use spinners and soft,hard plugs. Pm me so everyone doesn't know your secrets lol
