Sun shade

I have been hunting the desert. Some days I nap back at camp. One day where the temps broke 100 degrees my tent was well 121 degrees inside, Sleeping in the shade of my pickup the flies were a miserable problem. Any cheap ideas for a decent tent shade for a bugproof nap. I was thinking of making a lightweight tarp and placing it over the tent supported on the 4 corners with poles.

Any suggestions?

Ive seen mesh one man bivy's with a top on them. looked very lightweight (1# maybe?) at military surplus stores. jungle shelter im sure.

You said you slept in the shade of your pickup. I take it you camp near your truck so weight is no issue. I would pick up a cheap dome tent and pop it up in a shady spot. Leave off the rain fly and you should be ok. Or maybe some kind of screen tent that is smaller and simple to erect.

I am thinking of tying a tarp off the pickup to cover the tent. even a slight breeze is helpful. removing the rain fly

Wow!! not much shade at that camp. I guess a screen tent wont do much. Good idea with the tarp. You will still get the effect of any breeze. I would find a couple poles or box tubing to put in the back stake holes in the box then two poles for the other corners away from the truck and use a tarp like you stated. You could put some bolts or pins on the top of the stakes to go through the gromet holes then a couple ropes on top of that down to a stake on the ground. Position your truck to get the best shade for the time of day that you need it. A silver tarp would work best to reflect the sun.

You could also do one of the pop up canopies that people use at the beach or one of the screen rooms people put over their picnic tables at campsites. Whatever you do, tie it down well or it will be one big tumbleweed. Pick a softer material if possible or the flapping noise in the breeze will make sleep difficult.

I didnt think of the stakes in the stake holder, that should do it
