welcome dave nice to see ya, we really need to work on your shooting skills this summer once WE get your our bow and arrows set up for us trust me I can shoot 281/2" all day long . I will remember you volunteered to be my pack mule if I get one down. don't worry though I help haul out your first one as well. just as long as we are still in the same camp, im not driving 4hrs with only my pack . im predicting an elk down opening weekend for ya.

If wind doesn't affect the arrow much I will still get stomach, liver, and lung. If wind does affect the arrow I will still be fine. That being said, I'm not a big fan of hard quartering shots like this. I like to get double lungs.

Id have to pass on this one, I'm 99.99% sure I couldn't afford to pay whoever owns this fenced in area his "trophy" fee on this pet, I mean elk. Then id wonder how i got in there? But if I'm free range, my arrow is on the way, and probably before it hits home another is nocked.

I'd wait, don't like that much wind. Draw, aim, nervous grunt, and wait for him to turn broadside.
But, I know a lot of guys can make that shot, just not sure I can.

Where you guys are putting that X there will be a hind leg in about .3 seconds. Shooting a walking bull is risky, let alone in the wind. I wouldn't take a 45yd shot broadside in that kind of wind. Not because of arrow drift but because of the chance of wind buffeting my bow arm. Practicing alot in the wind has taught me that an arrow can take a good bit of crosswind but your bow/bow arm can't. I'm passing. Besides, with all that wind, getting closer or waiting for a better shot should be likely...

I have practiced shooting in some wind. Its not fun.
At full draw your bow feels like a sail catching all the wind it can.
This is not a chip shot, between the distance, angle and wind, Im not comfortable with it

I would not take the shot. Antlers that big, 45 yards, and 10-15 mph crosswinds, I would wait until he turned. If he didn't turn, I'd probably spend every minute of my hunt thinking, "I could have made the shot", but in the heat of the moment, and I doubt myself even 1%, I wont send an arrow. Jerinmn's pins and mine would look very similar. 20 yards, different story. I know my broadheads are affected a little bit by wind, and there isn't much margin for error there.

I'll wait, he's quartered a little too hard for me. I like to aim for the opposite front leg. On this guy you are going to have to shoot him through the back leg to get that shot.

I love that angle. With a quartering away you have a large margin of error and it would be hard not hit lungs. 45 yards is close enough to make the shot for sure. I'd aim at the top right of Backcountry's red X. The main thing I want to avoid is too far right and hitting the shoulder which would mean no lungs.
