New Bow - For Son

Ok, I'm ready to get my son his first bow. What does everyone think of the Diamond Infinite Edge 5-70#? I want a bow that grows with him. And the reviews of this bow are outstanding.

He'll aslo get Black Gold sites, Rip Cord arrow rest, Slick Trick 100, and carbon arrows. Anyone got a good recommendation on a good buckle release?

I'll be buying his in the next couple days. Still undecided about my new bow.

Not sure the age of your buddy, but I bought my son a Diamond Core last year - he will be 17 next month.
It shoots great! Very light and quiet. He has it up to 67# now.
In fact, he beat me by 5 points in archery 3D league this week!

I got the truefire foldback and really like the hook instead of the jaws, I never have to look down to string the release. The only thing I can say negative about it is as it gets used the ring will allow the trigger and hook mechanism to rotate or spin in the leather, not so much when it's folded back but I liked it when the ring was firm in straps.

John, just a though about releases. Many of us have developed some form of target panic throughout the years, and most of us have grown up with wrist strap index finger fired releases.

Since your son is just starting out, you might want to consider starting him on some sort of back tension release, like a hinge. He can always use a wrist strap for hunting. Kids learn so much more easily than us old folks.

Diamond Infinite Edge is highly recommended a lot for beginner women too. It is a great bow and resells very well.

A friend had the previous version, Razor Edge, and really liked it.

You probably already know this but have him try out some bows in the store to make sure it feels okay to him before you purchase it.

The package you describe sounds great. If I was going to consider anything else, it would be to let your son try a couple of bows, and see what he feels most comfortable with. If he is new to archery , you might still be the best judge of that.

So we went up to get my son his bow today. He shot the Edge and a Bear. The Edge was a better fit so we went with that one for Jr.

I too shot a lot of bows today. Diamond, Bear, PSE, and Strothers. Guess I've been out of the bow market too long! Who the hell is Strothers? Draw, shock, speed, feel......Strothers by a mile was the best bow for me! WOW....I was amazed and didn't want to stop shooting it. So I purchased it. Strothers Wrath Sho on sale from $799 down to $629.

Last i heard he was building high end custom bows with limted production--like 1500 a year. very very high quality bow John! Growler is shaking in his hooves---i can hear him now!

I like dimond bows alot, always have. I am selling a 2012 hoyt carbon element 50-60# if your interested

if you have to opportunity john, have your son shoot a few bows and see which one he likes best. here are a few youth bows to check out. the diamond you mentioned, mission (made by Mathews) has a few that would fit the bill and PSE has a couple main line bows as well. hoyt has the ruckus. im not sure if you have access to all of these bows or not but thought id give you a couple more options.

when you go to get your new bow you have got to shoot the full throttle by PSE. don't let the specs fool ya. that bow is awesome to shoot. im thinking about getting one on order for myself. funding for it is the only issue I have about getting one.

Check out the Mission Craze. Feels better built than the Diamond line. My son and I both shoot Mission. He has a Riot which is also an option. Bear Apprentice is another option.
