FMJ Injexion

Postby jmez » 01 20, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Anyone else going to try these? I just ordered a dozen last night. I love the FMJ arrow and have been shooting them since they came out. This new micro version should be the ultimate hunting arrow. That said, I do not like the HIT system, never have.

I'm going to use the AeroOutsert from Firenock on the ends of these. It gets good reviews and should be much better for shaft durability. Will also increase my FOC so should help with accuracy as well.

Currently have a finished arrow weight of 485gr. With these new arrows and outserts it will bump me up to 492gr and add 15 grains at the front. I'll report how they shoot. I'm going to make up three or four and compare to my current arrows.

Will be a week or so however. Easton doesn't release any specs on their arrows so I have to measure the outside diameter and send that into Firenock before I can even get the outserts ordered.

Keep us posted. I totally agree with you. Loved my old FMJ's and Injexions, but not an HIT fan. Are the firenock inserts a "Deep 6" thread, or are they standard? I'd love to hear your review. I'm shooting CS Maxima Reds now simply because of the inserts. I prefer the thinner shaft of Easton if this setup works out for you. I agree that the new FMJ's should be the ultimate shaft.

Standard thread, not Deep Six on the outserts. Another bonus.

I should have mentioned that. Not a fan of the whole Deep Six thing either. I shoot 125gr heads and the last I knew you couldn't get a 125gr field tip with the Deep Six thread. Also don't wan't to be limited in broadhead choice by the threading system of an insert.

Thanks. I did shoot the Injexions last year (in fact I killed my first bull with one). They are outstanding. Nothing I've shot (or my hunting partners) compare on penetration. They really hit hard and sink deep. I imagine that the FMJ aspect will only add more toughness. I hope the inserts work well for you, because I think that arrow will be a real killer. Good luck in your endeavors.

One of the guys I was hunting with was shooting the Victory micro diameters. He hit a big, mature cow head on, right where the neck meets the chest at 25 yards. The tip of the broadhead was just poking through the skin on her hindquarter.

I'd never thought an arrow could go through that much critter. It was impressive.

I ordered some FMJ arrows and am looking into the dislikes about the HIT system, looking at the Firennock websight it appears that they are cone shaped to where you will not need the adapter ring for broadheads. Im not sure why you would not need the adapter ring with field points to ensure arrow from scratching target when being removed unless they make field points specifically for the FMJ?

Please do keep us posted.

The purpose of the adapter rings is to protect the end of the arrow shaft. The bare end of the shaft tends to start to mushroom where the FP or BH tests against the shaft.

With the aerooutsert the outset the end of the shaft will be protected and covered so that is why no need for the BAR.

IMO there are no positives to the HIT or Deep Six systems.

Agreed, I have a couple arrows with the inserts set at the wrong depth. Apparently I can donate them to my son because they are trashed.

have you tried those yet? wondering how they were and how much trouble getting different inserts were. I am debating on getting either the fmj, fmj injections, or carbon express pile drivers pass through. I am leaning toward the FMJ's but the pile driver comes with a regular insert but is made heavier to help distribute more weight in the front of the arrow. Let me know what yall think.

OK an update on my project. I was at a shop yesterday and owner is a victory dealer. He had the penetrator inserts, first generation 9/32, we tried one and it fit perfectly.

My original plan was to use the penetrator insert half out but no one could tell me if they fit. East on won't release any specs on their arrows. I know guys have used this system on the regular injections and gotten along well.

I prefer this to an outset because of target life and being able to get them out of a bag.

I put three of them in last night. I'm not making more than that until I decide on a final configuration. I need to contact Victory and see if they are going to continue to make the first generation, they no longer show them on the website. The second generation are17gr heavier so they won't be interchangeable.

Should have these ready to shoot in a couple days.

I tried both the VAP and Firenock outserts on some VAP arrow shafts. About half of them will spin without wobble. The outside diameters of the shafts are not as true as the inside diameters. I really wanted to shoot these, but way too large of tolerances.

I got my fmj shafts in yesterday but working 16 hours had no time to look at them other than pull one out to give it a quick glance.
I noticed the nock appears to be glued in on the fmjs. Are they glued in from the factory? The Gold Tips I have now the nocks can be rotated which helps if you need to play with fletching contact issues.

Not glued in, just really tight. Some are tough to turn on your string, you really have to twist them.

AW snap, finally played with my new FMJs a little this pm before work, first thing i noticed is fitting them in my G5 Quiver. Snap in good but once in they are loose, I emailed G5 to see if they make alternate rubber retainers. Will be intersesting to see if they reply, anyone know if I'm SOL on this combination of arrow/quiver?

Also got the G5 arrow squaring tool, anyone use this on the FMJ arrows? If your not familiar it has a grinding head/stone side for aluminum and one for carbon. Since this is both was wondering if anyone has used this tool on the FMJ and which side provided best results?
