Wyoming Unit?

I am an avid bow hunter with max preference points for Wyoming. I am looking for recommendations on units that would make good use of the points that I have acquired. I would probably lean towards a guided hunt or private land access fee. I have enjoyed several horse pack in hunts over the years but feel that I would like to try a private ranch hunt. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

At this point I am more interested in finding a great area to use my points. You can only have max points one time in your life. I'm in my early 50's and in good shape. No kids at home any longer so am able to afford a hunt that is priced fairly.

The Ferris Mountains are really good for big bulls. There is alot of ranch land there, but I believe they let you hunt it for a fee. Could check that out. Have heard of guys seeing 400 class bulls there. Alot of elk too. Good luck.

Wagonhound is excellent. Barr Nunn is also excellent. JT is a stand up guy that is doing it right in the business. Also there are still many good outfitters in area 7. Area 7 has gotten a bad report lately but there is still excellent hunting on ranches that have managed correctly. You also may want to check out Triple 3 outfitters south of Kaycee (area 33). He recently acquired a lease on the little tisdale mountain range that is producing 350+ class bulls. I spoke with an archery hunter from last year that shot a 330 class his first morning. He said he regretted it because he saw many bulls larger over the next couple of days. He did say the only negative was that the hunt was too easy. You can buy up to three cow permits there reduced price. The outfitter "throws" the cow hunts in because they can't shoot enough of them. For DIY go area 100 or go south of Rock Springs or the areas north of Rawlins. Remember if you pay the "special" and apply for a blue chip permit, and then general as second choice, you don't lose your PP if you draw the general. You can hunt every year while waiting to draw your "premium" tag.

In my opinion though, you should pay to hunt premium private land because you may not ever get back to the status you are at now. Go after a 350+ class bull with one of the reputable outfitters with great private land. I am personally doing this next fall. I grew up in Wyoming and have harvested 21 elk in my life. Knowing what the state has to offer, there is no question I'll pay the money once for this opportunity. Public land 350 bulls do exist but once you figure what goes into building the points, scouting on your own, building camp, avoiding wilderness, and everything else you really don't gain much doing it on your own. Maybe a little pride on DIY but an archery free range 350 class elk is a trophy regardless of where his feet are planted...

I'd consider hunt with Craig at Triple 3. Very legit chance at a 350 plus with potential for a 380 or even better. Plus... nice guy, great accommodations... the total package. Tell him I sent you. You only need about 5 points for the license in his area though so you should be able to get that with ease. This one is still walking.

There was a thread on bowsite over the last few weeks. Unit 38 private land bow only. Only takes a few hunters a year. I think it was around $6000.

I'd guess this hunt is the one you're talking about from Bowsite. The unit is actually 33 and the cost is $7500. The same photos are on that thread.
