Best Recurve Bows

Looking to get a new recurve for elk hunting this upcoming year !! What do you guys like and why please ?

I just switched back to a compound. But, my last recurve was a Tradtech Pinnacle II. It is an ILF rig, so limbs can be easily exchanged. It is a wood/phenolic riser and has a little weight to it which I liked, also had a large sight window. I had Tradtech Blackmax wood/carbon limbs which were very smooth and pretty quick. I had tried a lot of recurves and this was my favorite.

I just bought a new Bear Grizzly, one piece
58" - 55lb
Not sure if its the best, but I love it, shoots good

I don't believe there is a best! We are all different builds & heights so look for different things in a bow. But I will say we all enjoy a smooth draw, this generally comes from draw wt, limbs of use & length of bow. Not sure of your draw length but it generally differs from a compound. I'd look for recurves in the 60"-62" length as they will provide a smooth draw as opposed to some of the shorter bows. I'd also choose a used bow & save some dough! (grin) At present I have a Brackenbury Recurve 3-pc take-down 28" 60#. It's very smooth & fun to shoot, it is my sons bow but I'm considering using it this year for a change! I've shot several others popular models & really don't see a huge difference in smoothness or limbs loading stiff or awkward. You should be able to find some nice recurves in the 300.00-500.00 range. A take down is a must for me!

I shoot a Sarrels Archery "Wildcat" for a recurve. I have 5 of them. I also shoot a couple of his longbows. These bows fit me great and shoot lights out for me. There are some really nice bows being made today from many great bowyers. I have owned and shot a lot of bows that are on the market.

What weight are you looking at? I have a 56# @26" I can let you test out if you want. At 28" draw it is about 62#. It is a 56" bow and is screaming fast.

Like Elknut said hard to define best. I'm shooting a 55# Martin Hunter, like how it shoots. Try to shoot as many as you can and go with what your comfortable with.

Thanks for the info guys ! I was curious as to what everyone would consider the best as we all know everyone is different. There really is no best bow for everyone. I just want to find one that I like best. This will be a good start.....thank you to everyone !!

Take a look at the Predator take down recurves as well, I have shot a couple and they are a real fine shooter.

I don't know if you have shot stick bows a lot or not, but if you haven't start with a low draw weight, 40#'s or less.

Grip is a big deal breaker for me, need to find one that feels good in your hand.

I shoot my compound every day but I am in the market for a recurve now. I will be shooting all winter and all summer with it so I want a very good quality bow. Our minimum for hunting with in Alberta is 45 lbs so I'll be looking for a 55-60 lb as I am pursuing only elk.

Shooting a compound and stick bow are really different. Archerytalk.com, Leatherwall.com, Tradgang.com all have great info on stick bows. Take a look at them and get some advice from their members as well, very knowledgeable people. I think most would recommend starting at 40#'s or less. That is why an ILF set up is nice, you can get quality used limbs for around $100' and move up in weight as you progress. I don't mean to preach, but getting over bowed is very bad, been there.

Take a look at www.dryadbows.com. They are pricey but, you talk about full working recurve limbs, boy they sure have them.

I know nothing about recurves but knew a few cats in Montana that swore by these.
