I have for years used the old wool bulky socks. I really want to try some good medium weight socks. I have really hot feet that rarely get cold and that sweat a lot. Anybody have any socks that are the cats meow???

I'm really happy with the Cabela's liner sock's and their light/mid-weight merino wool socks.

I used them for a week in Colorado chasing elk, during late bow season. We had 20's and snow to high 60- mid 70's highs and my feet where comfortable and didn't even have a hot spot let alone a blister. Match with the Meindl Perfekt boots! Unbeatable combination IMO.

Another guy in camp didn't wear liner sock and he was having a horrible time with hot spots and blisters. His remedy was duct tape... that I brought. I ended up giving him a pair of my liner socks and it was night and day different he said!! I ended up spending almost about $125 on sock for my trip but I would say it was worth every penny! Liner socks, liner sock, liner socks!!! Can't express it enough! They wick moisture, and let your feet breath! Good luck!

Right on Kevrod! Polypropylene liners are like a DREAM! Wick moisture and better yet... eliminate friction that causes blisters. Great point!

X2 plus infinity I use the exact same setup Kevrod mentioned. I take four pairs of the liners in addition to the mid weight merino socks on my two week (ID or MT) hunt every year and they work like a charm. Socks don't slip and the liners wick moisture extremely well.

Hey Elknut -

Are those Lorpen socks you get off Camofire? I have wanted to try some, but didn't know if they were good or not. Any feedback would be awesome. Those Thorlo's look awesome! I can't believe the price of socks!!!! I guess hunting goes downhill if the feet aren't holding up though . . .

Wapitibowman - I ordered several of the pairs of Lorpen socks off of Camofire, and I love them. I took 2 pairs into CO for 7 days, and paired them with the Cabelas poly liners, and didn't have any trouble. They're a good sock for early season, (30*-70*), wick well, and dry fast. My hunting partner wore "old school" wool socks, with no liners, and by day 3, his feet were a disaster. Blisters and hot spots. A lot were due to him not having really sturdy boots, but the socks definitely a culprit in my opinion. My feet were golden the entire trip. I'd recommend them, and they work great as a base layer sock when it gets really cold, paired with a heavy wool pair and poly's.

I went with the Lorpen "Hunting Sock", it's a merino/acrylic blend I believe. They come up far enough over your calf muscle to stay put, even hiking with weight on, and didn't stretch at all. I think I gave $8 on camofire for them, and it was a great buy.

Howdy. It just happens that about 3 or 4 weeks ago I was in the market for some new Merino socks. I found the best deal at Academy. They are socks from Magellan model #3401 a Midweight Hiker. They are: 70% Merino wool, 28% nylon, and 2% spandex. And, they were only around $10 a pair !!! I love mine and wear them all the time in my Schnees Hunter II boots.

I've yet to try smart wool but I see some good reviews.

I'm lucky when it comes to feet. They don't sweat, or ever get cold. I wish the rest of me was like that.

So, I wear the same merino wool heavyweight sock and Meindl Perfekt boots year around everyday. It won't work for everybody, but it does for me. A hot summer day, or hiking in 2ft of snow. The same setup works.
