Anyone have a Xbow on their Christmas List?

No xbow on my Christmas list. But I am eyeballing a Mathews or Diamond.

That was on my list last year. Ended up with a Barnett Ghost 350 and like it. Still not a fan of carrying those big cumbersome things around. Tree stand and ground blinds only for me with it. Haven't considered it for elk even though Wyoming allows anyone to use a crossbow. For now it's a special purpose tool. I use it for deer when it's so frigid cold out I'm wearing too many clothes to even draw my regular bow.

I bought my son the Diamond Core this past year.
I can't believe how light and fast it is!
It's only 3.2 lb.
He has it set up to 67lb and I shot it the other day.
Holy smokes. It is a nice shooting bow.
I would recommend it for youth or adults.

He don't know it yet, but one of his gifts for Christmas is a new Montana
Black Gold sight for it

they just changed the law here in NC 2 years ago to allow anyone to use one, I personally am not a fan of them at all. Id say mostly because it more competition in the woods during archers season lol

I believe states are realizing the drop in hunter numbers.
The Xbow is an opportunity to get some hunters in the woods that wouldn't typically hunt.

I think they will be legal for everyone in Wisconsin next year. I used to be in opposition to them, but don't care much any more. We have a special "muzzle loader" season that lasts a week here. Many modern muzzle loaders are as effective as a rifle. We need as many pro hunters as we can get.

In CO cross bows are legal during rifle seasons for anyone. Only hunters with significant physical impairments can get the special permit to hunt during archery season (whole month of Sept.) w Xbow/no optical sights.

So today my orthopedic surgeon tells me 2 of the 4 muscles in my R rotator cuff are too atrophied to be helped by surgery, and R bicep tendon is torn away from upper connection on rotator cuff, yielding a "Popeye," or bunched up R bicep, and failed rotator cuff. Dr. said I waited "many years too long" to get it properly diagnosed, now surgery can't fix it. Since surgery won't help, I got my 1st cortisone shot and an order for 6-8 weeks of physical therapy today, The goals are to keep as much strength as I can regain, improve range of motion, manage pain.

One of my goals is to resume archery hunting after 29 years away from it. I love shooting trad gear. Xbow seems like the farthest thing from my recurve, which I can't even draw now (43#). Anyone on here using Xbow adaptively for an injury? Is it effective, comparable to a good compound? Does it give an unsporting advantage over bows? What is involved in recocking? What is energy/effective range of a high end Xbow w heavy bolts/broadheads and non-optical sights? Not sure if Dr. will say I'll need to switch, but shooting a light recurve has been quite uncomfortable for a long time. Having Plan B seems prudent.

Cnelk, if you hunt Idaho, I'll reload your Xbow and pack your elk. I'd say you have given me enough guidance and advice to have earned at least that.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder. I wouldn't hesitate for even a moment if I were in your situation, to put up the recurve and hunt with a xbow. I wonder, is there anyone out there that's shot one withOUT using any sights. That would put you right back up there with the traditional folks, you'd be shooting bolts of lightning, but without a LOT of practice, who knows where they'd be going . . .

I'd have no problem elk hunting with a crossbow either, I'd want to elk hunt no matter the weapon used! Good Luck!

Not legal in Montana for ANYONE. Regardless of impairments. Not bows or attached devices suck as Draw-Lok that hold the bow at full draw. They are legal in rifle season there though.

Wow Brad that is lightweight..... nice! My draw weight is 175 pounds... crazy huh. I have the crank-cocker on it! Mine feels like it weighs 40 lbs! Just really front heavy like a muzzleloader. Hate carrying that contraption! Much prefer the regular bow but like I said... in ate January it can be too cold to use it when dressed like the Michelin tire man.

Indian Summer, or anyone else: what is involved to cock you Xbow, and how fast? Bolt/broadhead weight? What is effective range on elk-sized game? Any advantage to a compound Xbow over recurve? Thanks in advance.
