Cold Weather Pants

What do you guys like for Cold Weather Pants. Please include thermal layers in addition to external layers.

It really depends on how cold it is and what I am doing. I have some Carhart heavy coverall for general work in cold weather.
My base layers vary as needed. I have several variations of Cabela's Polartec under garments and some similar stuff from REI. If it is real cold I like my heavy duty wool pants, but in a tree stand my regular camo is fine for September hunting.

Base: Under Armour 4.0
Mid: good old sweat pants
Top: Sitka Timberline, or if it's extremely cold, wool
Also, which really helps, leg gaiters

For ice fishing in cold temps:

Base layer - silk
Quilted long johns
Wool field pants

When cold temps hit I go straight to wool top & bottoms. Base below with merino wool longjohn, then a poly knit longjohn & wool pants on top. The wool pants have 2 rear pockets, 2 front pockets & 2 cargo pockets & gaiters on the bottom. I also wear the Crispi 400gram insulated hunter gtx boots with 2 socks, one light wool & one medium wool. As long as I'm moving or not standing too long this is good for about any temps even below -0 - If standing around some then I add a hand/foot warmer in each shoe, I put them on top of my foot between the two socks, works great! I also keep a few extra in my pack. If sitting around some glassing for more than an hour I will start a small fire as well.

Depends what Im doing. But hunting bibs or Carharts on the outside.
Generally one ore two layers of poly propolene then fleece wader pants

On top body tight UA
then Polar-tec
2 layers of poly propoline Drake Thinsulate jacket,
More cold and wind a Cabelas Waterfowl coat
More cold a redicoulous thick down coat,,
Ive been wearing some Browing boots with 1800 Thinsulate,..
Also some lLacross boots with 2000 gm insulate

I also wear a gaiter around my neck

I am going back to wool next year, synthetic is just to noisy for me still hunting whitetails in the N Idaho underjungle.
Paul, what pants do you have that have gaiters built into them?

Ridgernr, the gaiters are not built into the wool pants, I meant I add the gaiters over the top of pants & boots. (grin)

That makes sense. I am looking for some wool pants and I may have Some sort of waterproof material sewn on the inside of the lower legs
to keep the wet stuff off and out of my boots. I find that while still hunting whitetail, gaiters are too noisy for me. I think wool is the ticket.

I used to have fleece gaiters lined w Goretex, waterproof and quiet, not as durable as cordura. Now I have neoprene gaiters that don't breathe, so my legs and feet sweat under them. You don't wanna go there.
