what arrows do you shoot?

we've talked about bows and broad heads but I haven't seen a thread on here about a arrows. im curious, what are you shooting and why. heres some of what im looking for. ill start with mine. hunting arrows only, my target arrows are very different.

arrow- carbon force X-weave 400 SLT hunter 29 1/2"
vane- 2" vane tech four fletched white
insert- standard CF insert
nock- standard CF nock
add ons- 50gr insert weight, broad head for this yr 250gr!

what do you have or changing this yr? these are new to me this yr. im still playing with everything and seeing how they fly. if all is good this is going to be a major setup for this yr.

Jeremy, are you shooting a total tip weight of 300grains with a .400 spine arrow? If so I hope your compound is no more than 50# (grin)

no paul, carbon force number there arrows different. the 400 are really a 300 spine but I have found them to be stiffer than rated. ive been playing with different point weights and this is pretty much the limit I can stack up front. ive talked mike cartrer of carters archery one of the best tuners I know and the advice hes given is, you cant paper tune an arrow like this, foc is two high. you can get close but not perfect. you have to group tune these. find a distance you are comfortable at and shoot a group. you make small adjustments to the rest to get your group as tight as possible.

he also informed me that for some reason PSE bows like a softer spine. he told me today he has guys shooting 80# omens with a 350 spine and 125gr head. hes the one that recommended a 200gr head at least for these arrows. he also found these arrows to be very stiff. his words were, "good luck"

Ahh makes sense! The nice thing about stiffer arrows is they can be relatively tuned with light poundage where as a weak spine just won't tune period! I've tuned 55# bows with 300 spine arrows & for several years I shot 300 spine arrows out of 65# with a 27" arrow & no issues at all. -- When paper tuning just to get pretty close I do not worry about perfection no matter the head wt. Ones form would have to be perfect to achieve the perfect hole consistently, so many times we are guilty of a slight hand torque & there goes the bullet hole & next thing you know we go fiddling with the rest, etc. (grin) Is there a specific reason you are shooting 300grn up front out of a compound? I've shot them before but have not hunted with that heavy a head wt. 250 has been my max out of a longbow but I've found 200grn upfront was the best performer & penetrator at 56# - I've passed completely through some nice bulls with that setup & 3 bladed heads.

Paul, I usually go through this every yr after hunting season is over. what can I play with this yr. . this is the first real testing I will be doing with my omen. I want to see how heavy I can build an arrow and maintain a speed above 280fps. ive got almost everything I need to just tinker and play. the one thing I am missing is a chronograph, maybe I need to hint for that from santa

I want to be able to shoot a stiffer, longer arrow and I would like to eventully shoot my bow with more or full draw weight
Im shooting Ted Nugent arrows, I want to find my arrows after I shoot ( or lose ) them. Also got them for the right price

as far as losing/ finding them you could always put a bright wrap on them or put bright vanes on it.

Previously and for a long time Easton ACC. Once they came out, Easton AC Slims because with the same sized hole from a brodhead the narrower shaft penetrates better. Less friction. I've always been an Easton fan. The tolerances on the AC arrows is as good as it gets. You get what you pay for. It's expensive so it must be good right?

5575 GoldTIp XT for me

I started with GoldTips years ago, never had a reason to change

I typically use 4in feathers with a left helical, but also have a few DuraVanes fletched up for wet conditions

I have been shooting 100gr SlickTricks but thinking about moving up to the new SlickTrick Xbow Trick - 150gr Magnum

We too have been shooting the Slick Trick & Viper Tricks, I also had my eye on those 150grn Xbow ones, they look mean & tough! As far as arrows go I've been bouncing back & forth from the Easton skinny Axis N-Fused & FMJ arrows. Both are great performers.

I have Gold Tip arrows with 4" plastic vanes and Carbon Express arrows with 4" plastic vanes. The C.E. arrows now sport a string trimmer cord core, since cnelk put me on to that trick. The G.Ts. are heavy enough without the trimmer cord core.

I get by with either Beman Black Max or Easton Axis in 340 spine with 100 grn Slick Trick Viper Tricks & blazer vanes. Finish out around 430 grains . Kinda old school, but they work for me & I don't have to take out a loan if I can find them on eBay .

never had issue with this arrow and can't see changing it.

very interesting and good numbers to match. just a question for ya. whats the height of those vanes? did you have any contact issue when you first set them up at 90*?

my arrows are 75x105* four fletched to keep them away from the bows shelf. also 3* helical.

2.02" L X .485" H, very stiff and quiet. i believe they are intended for crossbow bolts but i really like them. lower profile than the vanetec hp 2" (.55) and a little lighter. really good form retention. never had any issue with the 90 degree fletching.
for curiosity sake, what rest and does the arrow center through the berger hole?

if your asking about my rest, it the PSE DOA (AAE makes it) and yes the arrow is parallel to the line pse puts on there bow risers. not all of there bows have a berger hole, the line is just above where the hole would be.

I shoot Easton FMJ 340 spines. Straight out of the box with 100 grain slick tricks puts them at 514 grains. Very happy with them so far.

Just my third year shooting carbons. Easton 340 ICS Hunters up until this year. Bought my first arrow fletcher and make up a dozen of the Cabelas carbons with 4 blazer vanes. Seem to fly pretty decent although a few fletches fell off due to my absolute self fletching incompetence. Got em back on though

For my Bear 55# recurve I shoot 35/55 GoldTIp Traditionals:

50gr brass insert
145gr Broadheads

480gr total weight - very quiet and flies like a dart

I am setting up some GT Hunter XT's 5575's to shoot out of my Elite E32, 2" Blazers and standard inserts. If I decide to go with 175 grain VPA's I may have to switch to .340's. I used to shoot the Beman MFX but didn't care for the HIT system.

Have any of you guys tried or heard anything of the arrows "victory" from sportsmans guide? I am tempted to buy some for target shooting, but then again I like to shoot what I hunt with. Any information or feed back is appreciated.

Currently shooting CX Maxima Red 350's
My cousin has shot Maxima Hunters for years and it's hard to argue with his arrow flight. Also seem very tough.
Used to shoot 340 FMJ's and killed my bull with Carbon Injexions this year, but I personally don't entirely like the HIT insert system. To each his own. Other than that, loved the Eastons. My CX Reds do look cool though!
