Releases - When to upgrade?

I have had the same release since 1991. I obviously don't know when to change.

I had a truball for several years and I never found any fault with it except that it wore down my serving (that's why we have serving right). Well, once I sot sick of constantly re-serving, I added a string loop and my truball wouldn't work with the loop.

I'd say, if it still works and fits your shooting style and setup . . . release away!

I use a fairly cheap tru ball. doesn't have nearly as good of trigger as say a scott, but I shoot well with it an have a backup. so im not changing

I have an old Cobra. It has been back to the factory several times to get the strap replaced. I still like the release, but am a little embarrassed to send it back again. I will buy a new one the next time the velcro quits on me.

i have an old old old truball tornado. the thing is so scratched up. just climbing mountain with that thing dangling is pretty rough on it.

a few years ago,i heard they discontinued the thing..so i panicked. i combed the internet, and found another one. for more $$ than my original. i just bought it. while the strap is still stupid velcro, it is different. i cannot get them to strap on my wrist the same. but it is a close replica and my POI doesnt change that much.

i am done with velcro. i think my wife just put a new release into my Christmas Stocking!! i shook and felt the box up like a six year old! if it all works out, there is a TruFire Hardcore, hook style, buckle release in there. if i love it, i will buy another one..and give away my old tornados. i have a buddy that still uses it, and could use the backups.

i'd upgrade if the release is discontinued and you dont have a backup.

Yep, when they break or start loosing arrows when not ready to shoot, fatigue can set in on them. I picked up a new one last year after many years with the little bitty goose. Went to the little goose instead, nice release & small change.

Many years ago I bought a Carter Lok-Jaw 2000. I think it cost around $80 bucks back then. I love that thing. It has never let me down. But I got worried about what I would do without it. So, I got on the net looking for another one just like it for a back up. Some guy back east had one that was brand new, still in the original package for $25 so I bought it. Well, 5 years later it is still in the package and my old Lok-Jaw is still shooting as good as if it were brand new, not close to 15 or 20 years old.

I don't think I ever "needed" to upgrade, but since archery is my passion, I have upgraded most of my equipment over the years. Shot an old cobra for 15 years until I recently bought a carter single caliper. It's great and has improved my release for sure. If you do try a new release you should definitely give this company a try.

I am with WW, use a carter lok jaw 2000 (open jaw) and also have a lok jaw 2000 (closed jaw). Been using the spot hogg thumb releases, but I went back to the Carters not long ago, just never could get comfortable with the thumb style hunting.

I absolutely hate trigger travel. I like a heavy trigger that I can put some pressure on without setting it off. However, if the trigger creeps before going off, I tend to get target panic after a while. I've had one tru ball and one scott develop trigger travel after many shots, so I replaced them when I noticed.

I too have a Cobra. I purchased a new about 4 years ago because the velcro was worn. I have been shooting that release since 1993. It works for me so I don't plan on changing.
