Mountainsmith Monarch 0 Degree Sleeping Bag

Howdy. Has anyone had any experience with Mountainsmith Monarch 0 Degree Sleeping Bag? What do you think of it? I also noticed that it comes with two sacks, a cotton and compression sack. I'm not sure why, seems to me the compression sack is all that's needed. It seems priced right.

no experience with the bag.

the cotton bag is more than likely a storage sack. it lets you store the sleeping bag uncompressed so you dont destroy the loft of the insulation by keeping it compressed all the time.

Mountian Smith used to be the bomb-diggity of backpack gear. dont know about modern stuff. but their old 1980's backpacks were the pinnicle of backpacks.

pointysticks is correct about the 2 kinds of sacks. it is best to hang the bag if you can when not in use.
Use the large storage bag if you cant hang. Use the compression bag when packing for space

I recently bought a Big Agnes 0 degree Farwell mummy bag.
There aint no way it is rated for 0 degrees

I slept in the back of my truck last night in a riverbottom in Nebraska and I damn near froze my a$$ off.
It got down to 15 degrees.
I even had a BA insulated Air Core mattress under me and had base layers and clothes on.

I like the bag, but I wont be doing that again without another bag over it.
Or I will have a heater

A bivy type sleeping bag is on my short list of need equipment as well.

Thanks everyone. I was wondering about the fit and I also know the ratings are NOT always as they should be. Maybe a larger version might be in order.
