1st Elk Hunt CO GMU 444

Hey guys,

so this is my first ever elk hunt here in colorado and i have a 4th season rifle either sex tag for GMU 444. I have begun doing research and prep for this trip. I have looked at the GMU maps and the migration maps(although i have no idea which direction to go in as far as what elevations features elk will seek at this time) as well as look at topo features. I plan on going down the week before to the glennwood springs/basalt Area to scout and maybe sneak some fishing in on the pan or the roaring fork. I am a very seasoned camper and fish this area a lot. However any advice is welcomed. Being 11/15-11/17 that i get to hunt, any advice on where to concentrate or scout? my initial thought was to head east of ruedi resevor and head up to the lakes up in White River National forest....thoughts?

once again i appreciate any advice as this is a large GMU and i plan on taking the tacoma as far as i can and set up camp and then scout / hunt on foot from there.

I'll shoot you a PM on 444 when I get in front of my maps. Hunted archery there last year, got into elk every day.

Thanks man I really appreciate it. I have the hunt Maps GPS program on my google earth and have been marking what "appears to be good elk spots."
