How the Government Shutdown WILL effect Hunters

Personally.....good luck locking me out of my hunting areas. I don't know who's going to be the one to enforce it. And am I breaking any laws..... I really don't know. But this was shared on Facebook and is a short and very insiteful read.

a government shutdown is what is needed accept for the military. I don't feel sorry for any person sponging off the tax payer that doesn't get paid. it's time for folks to wake up and take this country back. the roles of the people and the government have been reversed and it is a disturbing trend.

I don't disagree with you.I just didn't think about the effects on hunters during fall and winter months. Like you I personally was thinkings, "well maybe we need this." Meanwhile the president plays another round of golf and lives the good life.

If shutting the government down is what it takes to achieve fiscal responsibility then I'm all for it. This is an opportunity for states to step up and take back what is theirs and gain independence from the stranglehold the fed has over them. A wake up call.

I thought everyone understood this is not a political forum. I for one do not believe civil service employees are sponging off the government. I feel the same about SSA retirees, civil service retirees, military retirees, etc, etc, etc. As a civil service retiree I find this kind of discussion stupid and offensive. As an individual who worked 37 1/2 years for the federal government, went to college and studied for my vocation, was paid less than my counterparts in the private sector, get no Social Security and my pension is less than many of my relatives who did not go to school and sawed boards and beat on nails for a living.

Hopefully this won't affect anyone's hunting opportunity. Not sure how it would unless Chicago Barry Soetero decides to issue an Executive Order closing National Forests...

I work for a large, publicly-traded technology company, and we don't have ANY "nonessential employees". But then we have to be profitable and operate wihtin a budget. So who are the government nonessential employees, and why are they "nonessential"?

Hopefully they aren't essential to keeping National Forests open and accessibl for hunting.

It is clear from your posts you don't care if hundreds of thousands of dedicated employees get paid, but you are offended that you may not get all of the Social Security you believe you bargained for. spending is out of control and if something isn't done sometime real soon our government won't have any money to pay any of the 100's of thousands of employees without borrowing it from countries like china. the situation is at a dire level for this country the way I see it. maybe some see it differently so I wish someone would enlighten me. i'm not as heartless as you may think just extremely worried about the direction and future of the United States of America that I grew up in

Swede I don't think Trophy hill was leaning towards the "line staff" that work for the federal govt. I think he referring to more of the politician side of things. The state and federal employees are just people trying to make a living and those jobs are really not like they used to be as far as pay/benefits. Can we get back to the original start of this thread and how will this effect us that want to hunt, fish, hike or vacation on the federal lands? I am curious to know what this will all mean for us.

Per Colorado CPW in a phone call yesterday: National forest lands remain open to dispersed camping and hunting. Some improved USFS campgrounds may be closed, others without water/toilets.

I have no issue with what you make or your retirement. I never suggested I did. See post # 5 again. All I said is that I worked as hard, put in just as many or more years as many others like you and get a smaller pension, so why are government employees/retirees so often seen as "sponges".

I served in the military 1965-1968 when it wasn't cool. We were called "baby killers".
I have worked in the National Forests when it was as hot as it gets, or sub zero, rain, snow, lightning, or whatever was coming. Sure we came in on rare occasions when it became dangerous, but we often hung in there late to just finish the job. I spent weeks on the line, fighting forest fires until I had to be relieved, for one shift because I was down with heat exhaustion. It did not matter if our jobs were on flat ground or slopes over 100%. It did not matter if the brush was soaked and way over our heads, or we were out on snow shoes, we did our jobs.
I do not ever remember getting any thank you mail from the public and only very rarely did someone from the public, who was a direct beneficiary even speak those words. I remember getting, cussed out and hearing crazy threats of law suits. That goes with the territory when you enforce contracts to ensure the American people are getting all they are due from purchasers and contractors. That comes when you catch people stealing timber on a large scale, or trying to cheat on their contract.
So don't give me that "Geez Swede, I have been having it rough and may need an easier job." A lot of people just want a job.
The next time you are in Portland lets have coffee and talk Elk and church..

i'm a government employee. i dont sponge. i actually take offense if someone calls me a sponge. my paycheck is smaller than it would be if i stepped into the private sector. but i love my job. nowhere will i get to work on such mega projects. i've actually taken a big pay-cut and work 3 days a month for free. (work doenst stop). straight out of college, i was offered two jobs. one was Halliburton. big money. i took the less pay job, and was dumped into a huge bridge project. it was awesome. my first paycheck..hahaha..it was so small. i never thought i would make it. i still remember opening up that first paycheck.

but whatever..think what you want. i just dont stand behind blanket statements.

and for the shutdown? i know little kids that are not getting cancer treatments because the money isnt there. alot of it is funded by federal grants. i'd happily give up hunting access if some kid can get chemo.

I think you took that totally the wrong way.

I hadn't seen anyone giving you a hard time since you got back and thought it must have been my turn.

I'm not complaining about my job or that I have one. I am proud of what I do and have been able to help many people move into homes they have dreamed of. Yes, it has been hard on my body just like it would have been hard on anyone that has worked in the trade for the last 30 years.

So, with that said, I apologize if my post was in poor taste or misconstrued. Never thought you would take that way and I would love to get together and talk again sometime.

I have driven 18 wheelers OTR
I have made high tolerance metal pieces on lathes and vertical mills
I have delivered the mail

For the past 2 decades I work for the State Gov [Schools] and make smaller paychecks than I did in the 'real world' jobs
Getting paid once a month took some getting used to.
I take my job very seriously and making a better learning environment for kids is more valuable than anything I know

No sponging here.

I hope the shutdown doesnt last much longer as it will start to effect everyone, hunters included

I fully planned to go to school and be a high school English teacher until I met my wife-to-be my junior year. Then it was a matter of deciding if I wanted to get married or wait for 4 years and then get married. Hello construction.

I wouldn't change a thing.

I think that good teachers are completely taken for granted and overworked with all of the paperwork that is forced upon them. I had a few teachers who were very inspiring and I'll never forget them.

I'm a Construcion Project Coordinator for the school district
We build/remodel and make improvements to the 50 schools for the 25,000 students in the district

I'm a general contractor and I can understand the long periods between paychecks.

I hope they get things together in Washington too.
