Anyone use these BHs on Elk?

Postby dhnut1973 » 09 26, 2013 •  [Post 1]

New to the site and think it has awesome information. Just wondering if anyone has used 100gr T-3 or Steelhead XL mech broadheads on elk? My set up is D-350, 70 lbs, 27" DL using 405gr Easton arrows. Pushing 290-295 fps. Thanks.

im not sure about either of those heads as ive not used them but I think I remember guys talking about using them. if you go with fixed slick tricks or exodus are both heads I can recommend.

Thanks for the welcome. I will be using 125gr Viper Tricks for my elk hunt but I was curious about the mechanicals because I also have some of those on hand. Thanks again and good luck this fall.

elk ribs are thicker an tougher than deer for sure, but I think a mech would penetrate just fine as long as your bow is suffiecent draw weight. nothings gonna get thru the shoulder. my standard slick trick hit the far shoulder. penetrated the far side ribs but hit the leg an stopped.
