Bow Names

I was out shooting one of my new recurves tonight and figuring out her personality. After a few days of shooting her and figuring out her personality and giving her a fitting name, I was wondering how many of you name your bows? I have 7 trad bows and they all have names.

Some of the bows and their names : 70# long bow - Lyudmila (La May La) , 65 recurve - Mad Anne Bailey. These are the two I shoot the most. I do have one bow that has a name I use a lot that is not proper for this site. Other bow name are Louise and Reyna. I have a 93# longbow that I still have to arrow tune and give a name once I get her figured out.

I havnt figured out my wife of 20 yrs yet, so not gonna name a bow on her personality. frankly I hope I have a male bow so he gets the job done without griping, lol.

The wife I will never even try to figure out. The now on the other hand well trad bows all have their own personality. They present it on the first shot and it either fits you or it doesn't.

Any of you trad guys ever shoot or own a Toelke Bow? Just wondering. I know these guys personally. Awesome craftsmen and great people as well.

Is naming your bow mainly a trad thing since they all are so different(the bows)?

I have shot a whip, a really fine bow. I will buy one, one of these days. The naming is like you said each bow is just a little different. I have two recurves same specs all the way around. Built a couple days apart by the same bowyer. They shoot just a tad bit different.

Don't worry about it Paul. You never keep one long enough to worry about naming it anyhow! LOL!

I have a sinew backed osage self bow named True Grit by a friend who made it.

my last bow was "Sting"

this current bow..after watching the first broad-head arrow fly away erratically and miss my target entirely.. named it "drunken sparrrow".

i almost named it "for sale". hahhaha..

Sure do! I have a Toelke Whip that took a good 6 years of figuring out. His name is Scar, and we get along great now.
