No Need For Bino Cases!

I see guys wearing these bulky bino cases or some contraption to secure binos to their stomach/chest area so they don't bounce around as they hunt. I see no need for the added wt & bulk, they look downright awkward! For years now I have sewn velcro on my packs waistbelt, this straps around my binos with zero movement, you can crawl or run & zero bounce effect & this adds no wt or bulk. It's simple easy to do & cheap! (grin) If looking for an inexpensive route to securing Optics, this is a good one to consider.

Is that Velcro,that can be kinda noisy?or does the bumps just slide out the top?

If the Velcro is to noisy you could put snaps on it instead. They are not hard to put on.

I've never had a problem with bino's bouncing when you wear a harness like in the picture. But I wear mine a lot more snug. Mine sits on my chest and doesn't bug me at all when moving fast, crawling etc.

Paul you sound like me. I have a new pack leaning against the coffee table. Every evening I move stuff around in it and get familiar with the layout thinking of how I can employ my little customizations to make it just a little better. A good pack is like a faithful hunting dog.

I like no love my Alaska Guide Creations Bino-Pouch. So do friends who have guided for me. I didn't say I like the weight but it's more than just a bino case. Pockets for calls, wind indicator and other small items I need in a pinch.

I'm going to ask Jarret Owens if he'd like to get his product in your store. I think people will like it. Great guy with a great piece of elk hunting gear.

When I see somebody on all 4's and their binos are still snugged up, I'll buy the harness. Pauls idea is the best yet but I belly crawl without my pack. I think his idea could easily be adapted to a belt type setup or a wide chest strap with elastic.

Guys it actually works out real well, the bimos aren't sitting as low as ones think I just don't have a long torso. Throw your pack on & see where your waist belt hits, I think you'll see it sits higher than you think. I'm using the excess straps that you tighten the belt with not the actual buckling part of the belt.

Yes you can slip your binos out without undoing the velcro if need be, I do it both ways, depends if critters are close or not. It may not be for everyone but this easy secured way sure works well for me. You will get no bounce if running or falling! (grin)

I went with a case to add protection for my binos. Just regular harnesses work fine for me. When my glass gets older and I get less paranoid. Ill go back to a harness.

I use the horn hunter case and I like it a lot better than the elastic harness I used before. I don't even notice it when hiking and hunting. absolutely no bounce or movement no matter what I'm doing. Magnet to open so no noise. Works great for me

Got some Velcro, sewed my pack belt like Paul's, and it holds my binos great. Best system I will have ever used. Packing in on a blacktail hunt this Sat., I'll let you know in a week what I think of hunting with them this way.

I also use a case for protection of my binos. Theres also a lot of times that I will not have my pack on for the stalk but this system looks great and convient when the pack is on with a bino harness.

Paul, great tip! I may do something like that but use magnets to make it quieter.

Paul, I talked to Jaret at Alaska Guide Creations. Sounds like he already contacted you and wants to join us. Nice! I don't use lens caps (since I lose them) so I like having mine enclosed. I gun hunt too and it can snow at any time or I suppose it wouldn't matter as much. But with Swaro hanging on my neck maybe it would... I just like having my pricey glass safe and sound in there. Hope to see his product here soon. If you talked to him you know what a great guy he is.

Those bino harness systems like the one from Crooked Horn are worthless compared to your method though.

Seems like a good idea that works as long as it's not raining all day, or the brush is soaked.

Us Western WA boys need to plan for rain as usual.

I hear ya' Slim. The rain drove me back east to the Rockies. I'm not sure what I'd use over there. Yuk! It's relentless. I know leather boots get replaced with rubber real quick. Lots of other items that work great in other elk country don't quite cut it there either. A good test would be to put on all your gear and have someone hit you with a garden hose for a couple hours........ ugh!

I used to use eye covers and my glasses would eventually fog up in unrelenting rain or soaked brush. All it took was me taking the covers off a few times and moisture seemed to get trapped inside of them. I even used to try keeping them under my rain coat without success.

I agree the bino cases are somewhat bulky but they are the only thing I have found that will last all day in the rain and slogging through the wet brush. In normal conditions in the Rocky's for Sept. I would much rather wear them your way for simplicity's sake.

Jared is a nice man. he makes an awesome bino pouch. my brother took mine for his big binos. i noticed Steven Rinella rocking his pouch now. good deal!

that velcro mod would render that pack a nightmare in a desert environment. in AZ, they have this weird funnel shaped sticker. it is like velcro itself!! it is about the size of a big grain of rice. it is a hollow tube. it sticks to velcro like crazy. when you try to yank them off, they crumble into velcro dust. having velcro that low on a pack..you wouldnt be able to set it down on the ground.

everytime you stop to glass, if you listen carefully..you will hear a fellow hunter cussing to those things..they loved to stick to cotton shoe laces.

so frustrating.

i dont mind a chest pouch.

Gregg made me something very similar a couple years ago with only a couple minor differences. it's not attached to my pack and they ride up a lot higher right where i prefer them to be with quick and easy access without hindering my shooting. they stay tight to my body.
