Leatherman on your belt?

I have always carried a Leatherman on my belt in the elk woods; it has so many uses. Do you cats carry a multi purpose tool with you? Just curious. RJ

Only in my pack if I am very far from the truck. I do carry a backup bow and portable press with a set of allen wrenches in the truck. I live too far away from elk coountry to lose a day going to town to get a bow fixed, always had a backup in camp.

I used to have my leatherman in my pack . . . until last year. At the end of the season I unpacked all of my gear and took inventory of my gear. It's always amazing to me of how my gear grows throughout the season. As a weekend warrior, I come home, throw my pack into the closet for the work week and then it's a mad scramble Thursday night to get it all loaded up again. Somehow I always end up throwing in extras. "Argh, I can't find my knife, honey, have you seen my knife" . . . "No Dear" . . . "Argh, I'll just use this one". I throw in another knife and maybe an extra Mountain House meal and some other miscellaneous items. By end of season, I have 4 knifes, two completely untouched Mountain House Meals, 5 bags of trail mix that I don't eat, 6 lighters and 3 extra pair of socks. I don't know how I end like this every year, I swear my pack swallows these items and only regurgitates them in disgust when I end Another year eating tag soup.

So, I vowed to only have one knife this year. It's the Havalon and I have 10 extra blades for it. BUT, if my Leatherman sneaks into my pack when I'm not looking on Thursday night, I won't be mad.

I carry one in my truck along with a bow press and an extra string. I bring an extra bow too. I try to keep the pack as light as possible.

I carry a Gerber multi- purpose tool in my pack at all times.

I've got a leatherman skeletool cx in my pocket 100% of the time. But I probably won't take it this year, favoring mini channel locks and a real knife instead.

my brother has a file box full of leathermans.

apparently the company just hands them out for free to policeman groups. they get broken, abuse, etc.

i went thru the box and found a few. super dull knives. you know what? a leatherman knife can get super sharp!! some easy sharpening, and i can get them like razors!! no info on steel type that i can find.

i tend to carry them on backpack trips..not hunting trips. great for pulling out fish hooks, clipping barbs..stuff like that. i would hate to clean one after using it to gut an animal.

now i have three of them. i like them alot.

I carry a vise grip multi-tool. I helped make them when vise grip was still made in America. They have one knife blade ( partly serrated ) a scraper blade with wire stripper built in and a screwdriver with plain or phlips bit in. American Tool only made about 80,000 or so and I have a few of the only ones with a super pointed knife blade. Yes this tool has a 5 inch vise grip on it too.

I try to remember to put my Gerber (goober) on my belt before I head out, but forget it as often as I remember it

I have Victorinox multi-tool with me all the time. They come in pretty handy when pulling arrows out of stumps when I mmmmmisssss!

Like rudyc, 365 24/7 I use it almost everyday. Today I used it to clean a battery terminal on my Bobcat. Yesterday to open a primer plug on a trash pump, I feel naked without it. I also have mini Leatherman on my key chain. They have saved the day too many times. Got to remember to pack them away when you fly. I've lost two that way.

I've lost more multitools than most people ever own. I can't seem to keep them. But I don't miss it when it's gone. I gave up on them a long time ago--I just don't use it.

I carry it every day, and have for twenty years. The few times I have left without it, it was like leaving the house without my pants on!

Over the years I've had Leathermans and Leatherman knock-offs. But I LOVE my Gerber Suspension. I think I've had this particular one for about 4 years now. I always have it in my pack when the season rolls around, but don't seem to use it much for hunting. *Shrug*

I'm with you on this one...a classic Leatherman has been my most useful tool by far. Would be hard pressed to give you an example, but they seem to arise every 5 minutes at elk camp and I have it handy. It may not be the best tool for any given job, but it has a function that will get it done...quick.
