bought a rino 610 last year, turned it on this year and the map page was blank. talked with my hunting partner who bought the 655 last year and his was the same way. he called garmin and they said it was because there is a update that needed to be done on the maps. so, he charged his then went on a 20 plus mile hike and it wouldn't turn on and wont unless he has the cord plugged in. mine will turn on but still no map page, hooked mine up to the computer today and tried to update and it says I have no updates, but still a blank page on the screen. im not real happy right now. anybody else had this issue. we put in a lot of waypoints on a Colorado map last year and it wont come up

Just plug the thing in to your pc using a usb cable. It should show up as a new hard drive. Navigate to the GPX folder and your waypoints should be right there.

If you have a writable sd card installed you may also have some in the GPX folder on that card too.

I plugged it in but couldn't get that screen to come up, and the map page is still blank, im gonna call them tomorrow

well I called garmin, not much help at all. got my basemap that came on it back up but the screen goes white at 2 miles an closer, have a map a 3 miles an out. which is worthless. the map I downloaded last year of Colorado is gone, he said to re download it, which again sucks and I should have to. im really not happy with garmin right now.

first thing, get your waypoints and tracks off the unit, either thru basecamp or using windows explorer.
You won't get the screen I posted till you open explorer or "my computer" and look at your drives. With the unit plugged in to the computer you should see a "garmin" drive.

If you have a map 3 miles and out, blank screen closer, it sounds like you have a custom map/scale issue. I have a map that works till I hit 500 feet, then sat imagery takes over. If there is a problem with the lower scale map, it won't show.

If you go to "setup", then "maps", try disabling all maps but the basemap. Depending on the unit that may be a hwy map or a topo.

it may not be gone. It should show in the "setup" , "map" page where you can enable/disable it. If its on the unit windows explorer will show it.

good news. Copy that and yur waypoints off to a folder so you don't lose them...

I create Garmin maps so I get my share of questions on Garmin units. It seems more often than not when a person starts having odd things that can't be explained such as maps not showing up or just odd behavior in general such as this, the unit needs to be rebooted. Be careful because doing this most likely will delete your waypoints and tracks. Use the Garmin BaseCamp software and download and save them to your computer, or do as Wapitibob was explaining as far as copying them to your PC.

To reboot the Garmin Handheld units which have a touchscreen, you press and hold the upper left-hand corner of the display window, while the unit is powering on. A question should appear saying Do You Wish To Delete All User Data or something similar. Once you say Yes, the GPS is back to the defaults. I know this sounds odd but before ever sending the unit back to Garmin or giving up, try this. AS I SAID YOU WILL PROBABLY LOOSE YOUR WAYPOINTS so make a backup or copy of the first.

I know this has worked for hundreds of odd things I have seen and experienced with Garmin units. As far as the Colorado map, after this process, if the map doesn't show in Map Setup, it would have to be downloaded again but it may be there and work properly after rebooting so check first.

Automotive Garmins (Nuvis) are even more notorious for locking up and acting odd. For these units, you typically slide or press the power button depending on the unit and hold it for 10 seconds and the unit will reboot. It is similar to the Cntl - Alt - Delete on a Windows PC if you have ever locked one of those up.

thanks guys, I havnt had time to do what bob said yet but im gonna. I did a complete reboot with the garmin rep on the phone and it didn't help. the map is in map set up, but wont come on the screen no matter what I do. I would buy another map but whos to say it wont happen again and I would lose another 100 bucks. garmin was less than helpful. thanks again though guys.
btw its a rino 610 but I saw your maps were on a sd card and I don't have a sd card slot, so do you put them on a disk.

There was a time I allowed or had a download option to load into internal memory of the GPS. However, 98%+ preferred or purchased the SD/microSD solution and most of the Garmins do have a memory card slot, so I discontinued it about 3 years ago as there just wasn't the market for the downloadable version. There is nothing easier than just popping in a card and going. Then when you get to the truck a lot of guys are running Nuvis in the truck, so you pop the card in there and now you have an automotive GPS functioning as a hunting GPS. No downloads, no uploads, no installations, just insert and go. I realize this won't help you out but if you end up getting a different GPS down the road, keep the TRAX maps in mind.

ok, did all the reboot, downloads etc that is on here an what garmin told me. nothing is working. garmin says to send it in for service, but not sure I have time now.

I kinda had this problem last year. When I went to look at a waypoint on the map it went blank. 655T Rino. I had the same problems with Garmin. It fixed itself...So far. If I recall I did all that you have listed above.
I kept rebooting and reloading maps. Try Gpsfiledepot.com. They have numerous maps, free that you can download. The one I use for Idaho and Wyoming came from there and we're good. I dont buy Garmin maps anymore. Better than the Garmin maps you buy. I'm sure there is one for Colorado you could try. Look for the editor choices. Won't hurt and it won't cost you anything. Might just be an issue with your map you have. If you saved your maps and waypoints in Basecamp you should be able to reinstall them easily.
