What can you guys tell me about these electric 4x4 machines ? They seem like over grown golf carts but are they any better and how far can you run with them. what kind of problems are they prone to ? Thanks for any comments guys.

I have only had one experience with one, so I don't know about range or potential issues.

I do know . . . they are Super SNEAKY!!!

I was WT hunting in Missouri and I rode with the Farmer on his to recover my buck. We rode right up to several different deer meandering about feeding. The only sound was the leaves under the tires, but since the tires are rolling, it wasn't even as loud as foot steps and didn't spook the deer. I was amazed. It would be very easy to become a lazy slob hunter with one of those.

Great until you have to buy a set of batteries! A friend of mine had the Polaris model and it would go just about anywhere. The batteries would only hold about 1/2 charge no matter how long it was plugged into a current bush. The following year he replaced it with a gas modle.

If anyone on here has owned one and have any pro's and con that would be perfect. I'm after a silent approach into my hunting area's which are mostly down cutlines and over grown roads up here in Alberta so " A good used truck won't cut it !!". Plus the smell of burning oil and a truck with no muffler wouldn't work for what i'm after.

I can easily get into the bush 2-3 miles before first light in a buggy and then walk from there. If I had to walk all the way in it would take till noon and the elk would be bedded by then.

So this is why i'm asking about the electric bad boy buggies as they are silent and still 4x4 and mud and creek crossing capable.

So I am actually looking for any real experience from the guys who have owned them. I already own two quads and a side by side motorized so that's not an issue here. But I am looking for the silent approach that electric can offer.

Wapiti, honestly I think you'll have better luck running a search on archery talk.

Personally I would rather put a secondary muffler on a gas model than worry with a full electric.

I have a lifted from the factory golf cart that i have taken to western ND and it did vey well, we usex it everyday to get back and forth with quite a few hills and never ran out of juice, about 8 miles a day, on flat ground i can get about 35 miles on a charge. The BBB is a 72 volt ac motor so it should do very well, i have drove up to 20 yards of deer on mine and they just stood there looking at me, if big miles arent needed i would take electric over gas everytime.

Sounds like you may need to consider a bivey type hunt where you slip in the day before and spend a night or two. Another option that has already been mentioned is a stealth muffler for your ATV. I had one once on a 300 Kawasaki and it did a great job. Probably cut engine noise in half. But at 10,000 ft elevation it robbed alot of power from that machine. I think they would be great on a little larger engine.

Mine was one of those Ben's Silent Rider mufflers. He says if you don't like it, sent it back. I did that with no questions ask. I told him I was happy with the noise reduction but it robbed a little too much power at my elevation.
