No tree stand, and no shooting lanes cleared out. Not in any place I have a tag for. What triggered the camera? What is the dark object on the right side of the picture? It would be good to see a well used trail into the wallow , but it may be coming in from the right. It would also be encouraging to see some rub trees in the pic, but they could be nearby. In other words I don't know.

Hard to tell if the wallow's been used recently. It looks good but I wouldn't put money on it unless I had a sequence of pictures or at least a close up.

I think Swede nailed it. Looks like all lodge pole. No place to put a tree stand.

Looks like the camera was mounted a little off level, looks like it was triggered branch movement (or Sasquatch, they can be REALLY fast), the waters a little muddy. But what’s wrong with the picture, it’s missing the elk of your dreams….heck I don’t know what is wrong?

Stared at the photo for a muddy elk butt leaving the scene but don't see anything unless that dark object on the right is something? Is it a ground blind really, really close to the wallow?

I appears that 2011 was a wetter year. There is no visible sign of mud being thrown out from a wallowing bull, but that could easily be explained by a good recent rain. No tether on a tree with a bull tied to it, so when you arrive, he is gone?

Only thing wrong with the pic that I can tell is I dont know where it's at. In the second pic, I'm currious as to what the white spot is in the middle of the wallow.I have found wallows that had been sabotaged by peta freaks just to screw it up for hunters.They had crapped around it, threw out old strong scented bars of soap & even spread moth balls around it.Wish i had known when they were in there... Their ride might not have got them back to Boulder.I'm with bnsafe, get us some coordinates & we will investigate further...

I've got it!! That bubble in the middle of the wallow is none other than Glinda the good witch from the Wizard of OZ, right? That's what's wrong with the picture, the wallow is inhabited by witches

The 'white' spot in the 2nd pic is just the reflection of a bit of water left in the wallow.

You guys are right, nothing is wrong with the pic, other than the following:

I dont have tree stand hung there - yet
Its not elk season - yet

The timber is a bit thin for nice trees to hang a tree stand on, but Im sure I will find one the make due...

I will be placing a game cam there this summer so stay tuned!

I believe you sir, know a lot of spots that have wallows. They're all not haunted are they Good thread.. Had me scratching my head for sure.

To me what's wrong is, it just ain't getting much action. I've seen places like this with 10-20 "wallows" or similar spots that don't see action every year. What I see here is a spot that has been used in the past but is rarely if ever used by wallowing bulls this particular season. Wallows that I would term "good" in my otc areas are absolutely blown up with mud everywhere and freshly ripped trails and rubs.

Interesting thought WW. I have used ladder stands in places where the trees were relatively small. Also I have screwed boards with lag bolts to two trees to bind them together to get a solid support for a stand. As a tree stand hunter, I am sure you have had to improvise to get the right set up.
I would advise against using nails in trees as they are very difficult to remove if not impossible. Using lag bolts is better, but not perfect either. They usually can be removed with a wrench. It is no coincidence that I used the word "usually" when saying bolts can be removed. Some will break off just below the bark.
