Elk Calls

Hey guys I am new to the sight so please excuse my question if they seem dumb. I just retired and will be going with my sons this fall 2nd rifle season. There is a ton of info I have gotten off this sight and my question is this; After my reading what folks I have gathered bugling sounds not out of the question but not practicle either at that time. So being a novice what kind of cow call would you recommend for a beginning elk hunter?
I am adapt and catching on using calls, i use waterfowl, deer, turkey(mainly diaphram calls) and predator.Thanks

not a class favorite around the world, but still to date my favorite is a bite and blow cow call
sceercy......it is almost fool proof and makes great sounds.

I like the temptress and the hyper lip single with tone converter. You might check out Chris Roe's stuff. He's a pro and tests and critiques about every call available on his webinars. IMO, his stuff is VERY useful!

I like the Hyper Lip Single also. I think it is easy to use. I just haven't mastered the reed calls yet but I do carry one to stop them even if I do sound squeeky.

I've been using this one the past few years as a change-up call to my diaphram (Carlton Bull Hooker). Really like the tone and ease of use. The way the lanyard attaches to the call isn't the best but you can work with it.

We at Glacier Country Hunting calls have just what you are looking for. The High Heel Hottie is an open reed bite call that is fantastic!! It might take someone who has never used it about 3 minutes to learn. We are calling in bulls from over 500 yard away with this call on a regular basis. If it is a diaphragm you are looking for I have 2 awesome cow/calf calls that you may be interested in. The Sweet Temptation and the Sweet Seduction. We have had some excellent results with these as well. Take Care Troy

if you like a reed, my favorite is the mellow yellow by rocky mountain (i think). i can be quite with it or get real whinny and loud. for me its easy to use.

Ha I have a few knew favorites since then. But I still use it and it works. I had a couple cows about run me over in the Gila last year using the hoochie, the baby hoochie and the Carlton's Sqeeze Me in conjunction with a diaphragm. It was exciting

Also, I support Troy's High Heel Hottie. It is a sweet call and will be clipped to my pack this year.

I like the Temptress by Bugling Bull game Calls and also Imakadabullcrazy by Primos. For some reason that Primos call is the only one I will get an answer from some of the time. Every hunter needs an open reed call as it's the only type of calls you can make those nasally estrus sounds from. The majority of the time I use mouth (diaphragm) calls but I need to get nasally I pull out the open reeds. Buy a few diaphragm calls and start practicing. You should be able to get the hang of it by September .

I see lots of people at sporting goods stores standing in front of a wall of different calls with a puzzled look on their face. They just do not know what calls to buy and most are not sure what the different calls sound like.
