Have read allot of the threads and really enjoyed the reading and info. First time on here for me and this fall will be my first elk hunt with my boys and 521 in Co is the chosen unit . My son has been out before but I want to learn as much as I possibly can.

is that west of the West Elks and north a little from Paonia?

I think maybe I hunted up there once on the east end of the Mesa.

OK, then.
My little experience up there was that there are elk in there and scattered at times.
I hunted up muddy creek drainage. had pretty good hunt up there really.
Lots of oakbrush in that area. be prepared for it. It is thick, dense and noisy, but the elk are in it.

what else?

we are going to park and hike in about a mile and camp then the hunt farther in from there. My son has been out there but I never have, been to Wy for mulies but that is nothing like what this will be and being I am getting up there want to make the most of it. walking walking and walking is what I have been doing.

Any idea what part of 521. I haven't hunted that unit but I have been thoroughly researching it because that's 1 of the 3 gmu's that I have narrowed my humt down too.
