What exactly is this and what does it do?

I grabbed one a few weeks ago. Very clever piece of equipment. Have you ever tried to balance your camera on a stump, tree crotch, dirt mound, pack, etc. before you kick the timer on for a backwoods photo? This little contraption is just plain worthy of the few bones it costs. I'll pack my camera and the clipshot this fall for certain. We need a group photo for the bull I'm calling in for you this fall Tim and the clipshot will sit on the nock of the arrow you shot the bull with as we both say "cheese".. RJ

I would like to give some background on the little device I make.

I’m new here to this forum and hope you will recognize that I’m not trying to be somebody. My home my entire life has been in northwest Montana. My family has enjoyed outdoor activities in our section of the Rocky Mountains our entire lives. We enjoy the variety of places that offer year round outdoor entertainment. We have some priceless photos enjoying the outdoors as our girls were growing up. Like most people, we would prop our camera on something, set the timer, and capture a memory. Since we traveled light, we got pretty creative at times to position the camera. I only regret this idea didn't occur sooner.

Actually, what prompted me to come with this little device was a missed photo opportunity of my first archery Bull Elk. Although bigger bulls are possible in my section of the Rocky Mountains, this one was by far the biggest I had ever had an opportunity at. What made it even more special, it was the very first elk I got with my bow. Fact is, it was the very first arrow released towards an elk after 4 years of learning what not to do during archery hunting, and I was solo. So, while still almost in a state of shock, I scrambled around trying to find something to perch my camera on and capture that moment in time. I tried my best to find something, anything… that would work to elevate my camera… Seriously, only large trees and a few bushes in the spot it fell, no stumps, rocks, or anything within packing or dragging distance. So, I was forced to drape my pack over a bush. After running back to catch my camera a couple times, I settled for one photo. It was late in the day and I had a lot to do before it got dark. Although it is a very meaningful photo, I was a bit unhappy with the low angle results. I decided right then that I needed to find a lightweight camera holder in case this ever happened again. After searching everywhere, with no success, to find something compact and lightweight, I started thinking outside the box. My goal was to be able to clamp my camera to common objects found everywhere in the outdoors. Before the next fall, I had a simple solution that filled my personal need and took up very little space in my pack.

My background as a machinist provided opportunity that others may not have. I started calling it my “Clip-Shot” and the name seemed to fit. The total weight is the same as one AA battery, or 1oz. For another comparison, I weighed my car keys (including—remote, ignition key and 2 house keys) and was surprised that they weigh more than twice or 2.2oz. It is so lightweight & compact you may forget you have it along until you want to be included in the picture.

For me, it has become a practical solution when I need a solo shot and equally as priceless for a group photo …no more rotating someone out of several pictures. I feel that High Quality and comments from satisfied customers continue to be the best form of advertising.

Got more assembled this weekend, so I have more than 100 available.

A very nice and lightweight pod... but 10 times bigger, 8 times heavier.... and still doesn't get my camera up off of the ground unless I have a tree.

I'll still stick with the Clip Shot. That's another handy dandy item but only works for 1 of the applications. Not on branches, not for gun hunters, & not and ElkNut sponsor! lol

The crow has been known to fly from Galena Creek to Squaw Peak to Bloom Peak. I've seen him at Toby's! Darn crow... does me no good. Love it up there.

I decided to share something that happened a few years ago at a High School function of our youngest daughter. When it was time for a group photo, the tripod would not elevate high enough. Before rounding up a chair for each leg of the tripod, I offered to use my Clip-Shot. Your What..? With a microphone stand within reach, I flipped the boom up and suggested we use that for the tripod. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy. My wife & daughter were the only ones that knew what was about happen. Everybody got back in position, and with my camera around 7 feet off the floor, I set the timer and in 10 seconds everybody got the picture...

By the way Joe, you pretty much covered north, south, east, & west of my local hunten grounds. I would be amazed if we haven't passed by each other somewhere along the way.

Just got my ClipShot in the mail yesterday and thought I'd share my experience. Lyn was super friendly and helpful, and shipping was FAST. He told me he was headed out of town but was going to have his wife take it to the Post Office for me--and I even got a friendly note from "the wife."

I've just played with it in the house, but it definitely seems to work as advertised and looks to be really well made. It even clamps down on my tiny diameter Victory VAP shafts. My only concern about it is the durability of the clip--it is plastic--but like I said it seemed to have no problem clamping down tight.

I was reluctant to buy one because I usually just use my iPhone for pictures (which isn't threaded for a tripod). Lyn PMed me and told me he was working on a small adapter with suction cup for phones, so I ordered one. I'm not sure how many of these adapters he has on hand, but if you are interested you should PM him--he seems super friendly.

Here's a few pics. Just wanted to give a plug for what seems to be a great product made in Montana!

Let me assure you, if the plastic Clip should break, we will replace it Free of Charge.
Our goal is to have a little product that will never break under normal use.
I’d like to share something to assure everyone how serious I take Quality.

Of the 15 or so plastic Clips we have replaced in the last 6 years, all have been traced to the first production run.
The tests I had made on the prototypes did not reveal any problem, but when the first broken plastic Clip was reported, I took it personal. We had around 450 assembled units in the field, and we did not assemble another until this was resolved.
After aggressively testing several hundred of that first batch of production plastic Clips, it was verified that something was different.
So, I immediately contacted the company in Utah that made the injection mold for us & produces the plastic Clip.
They determined that a random heat build-up issue was likely the culprit during the production run.
Therefore, to avoid any possible mix-up, we immediately canned the entire remaining inventory of those first plastic Clips.
A change was made with how the mold was gated in 2008, and we have had no more problems.

In an effort to maintain High Quality, we ask that any broken plastic Clip be returned for evaluation.
Personally, I have always preferred things that last, and that is my desire with this little product.

When you consider how small it is and how little it weighs I can't think of a reason NOT to have one. My profile pic and many of my photos were taken using one. Yep, priceless little gadget.

too bad that clip shot didnt run over and move the branches away from the front of that bull i like the gizmo.

in most instances, i have a real tripod with me. at least in our group. if we dont, i have gotten very creative with camera positioning.

my friend had one of those snake tripods. it was so annoying. everthing he attached his camera to moved. the branch would move, the tree would move. in the end, we did the balancing trick on my backpack. no movement.

Thank you! Yes the photo of the Bull in 2002 is what prompted me to make my little gizmo. I'll post a photo from a few years ago of another mature Bull. For me, my clip-shot has solved the problem, maybe it would for you too. I do have a couple other colors in addition to BLUE.

I have Green, Autumn Orange, Black, & even Pink for the girls.
