If they were Roosevelts on opening day, I'd probably shoot one. I only hunt 4 or 5 days in my home state when the elk are in any semblance of the rut so one of these buggers would probably go down. Since they're Rocky Mountain elk, and my opening day for either an ID or MT hunt starts mid SEPT, I would probably not shoot. I've got two more weeks during the peak of the rut. There are bigger fish to fry .. Last few days of my hunt, I'd quite possibly settle my 40 yard pin on the one on the right and touch off a shuttle T.

I'm not proud. I'm settling my site in the center of the "v" and killing the elk on the right. I haven't been hunting elk long enough to be too picky

I'm gonna put one of them on the ground. In the area I hunt elk are hard to find and either one of those guys would eat good. I envy you guys who hunt areas where you can be selective.

His left leg is forward and Im putting my 40yd pin on the opposite right front leg.

If I wanted one of them, which I normally would... I'd make a popping grunt to freeze them for the shot.
I would be aiming lower than where cnelks' dot is though... that hit would be top of the lungs.
Six inches lower and a couple inches farther forward would really be center-mass.

I wouldn't make a peep. I would wait until they quit sparring and would carefully wait for the perfect angle. Shooting while they are locked up is not a good option at 44yds.

that distance - out in the open - good light - wind OK - bull preoccupied with each other.

the places I hunt are not every that good. what I am waiting for?

NOTHING! draw, aim, relax, execute a perfect arrow release, watch and focus on the arrow.
