Broadheads for Elk

For bow hunters I have a question. All else being equal; would you rather have a 3-blade broadhead where the cutting diameter is 1 13/16 inch or a 4-blade broadhead where the cutting diameter is 1 inch when you are elk hunting? Personally, I think the difference is probably negligible, but I am not sure.

Mine are a 2 blade with 2in cutting diameter. Hybrid mechanical. The front blade is a fixed cut on contact ¾in cut diameter and then the mechanical wing blades

Any blade combo (2, 2 w/bleeders, 3, or 4) is lethal on elk “as long” as they are sharp and accurate in my opinion. I agree with Swede that the difference in effectiveness/lethality between a wider 3 blade vs a narrower 4 blade is probably negligible. I have killed Elk with both three and four blade and as long as the point of impact was good and the broadhead was sharp, the blood trails were good and the animals went down.

2blade,3 blade or 4 blade? Who cares?? Sharpness and shot placement is what really matters. (If your eyelashes don't fall off just from looking at them, they ain't sharp enough)!!!!!!! And if you have trouble sharpening your broadheads, I'd recommend the 3 blade for ease of sharpening. Other than that, they all work.

I’ve only killed one elk with my bow, but I’ve killed quite a few deer. I've shot Magnus 2-blade broadheads with bleeders ever since I started archery elk hunting.

After switching from mechanicals to Magnus 2-blade, I immediately noticed that the animals’ reactions after the shot were consistently calmer. A few of them made a couple of big jumps and then simply walked off. Others traveled less than 100 yards and died once they felt they were far enough away from the noise of the bow.

It was explained to me that the Magnus broadhead is so sharp and slender that the animal doesn’t immediately realize it has been hit—it's like a paper-cut sensation.

I’ve been extremely impressed with 2-blade (4 blade if you count bleeders).
