Hunt Ready?

Last season I spent all summer shooting trying to get ready for elk season. When opening day arrived, I felt prepared to shoot again out to 40 yards. Within two weeks I had to lower my bow poundage by five pounds and resight in my bow. All year long I have been working or strengthening my arms so I can shoot the bow at max poundage this year. It seems to be working, but who knows if I will have to drop the poundage again. My routing includes practice shooting and daily exercise of my arms.
What are you doing so you can shoot well when the time comes. I suspect at age 79 as of this coming season it will be very important to be in the best shape I can get.

I wouldn't worry about dropping a few pounds Swede. I've been watching a guy on Youtube who shoots in the hi 30's to lower 40's poundage bows with heavy arrows and he has plenty of killing power out to 40 yards or so. He is shooting instinctively with both recurve and long bow. Dang if I can remember his name right now but if I ever run across it, I'll be sure to let you know. I realize you may not want to give up the old compound. But, this just goes to show that low poundage with heave tipped properly spined arrows can do. I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work for compound shooters as well.

I agree Bill. Last season with my bow set at 40# I shot my bull at 40 yards, and the arrow went through and stuck just under the hide on the offside. It made no difference to the bull. I just don't want to give up any poundage or an inch.

I ve posted this a few times but I like to use The BoY Scout motto ,,, "Be Prepared"

However my excuse I Im also a husband and father, I also enjoy other pursuit's, and almost have a social life

Ill never be able to shoot archery as goods as I did as a 13 and 14 year old, or a rifle as good as a me at 40, or stack 5 minute miles, or sneak through the woods, or pack hundreds of pounds on my back,,,

I am using dumbbells to stretch,,, I am shooting more often, I am hiking the fringe areas of "my bull, I a m using trail cams, I am eating more nutrinially than ever,, ( still a few flaws, But I have given up MT Dew completely,, almost) I am truying to get 7.8 hors sleep nightly, I am diligent eating fiber,,,,

In 2024 i did a lot more preparing all summer than i usually do. Last year i went back to not getting as prepared and the few days before season were a push. i was way more physically prepared last year though....this year the goal is to put it all together and be ready on both sides
