When I was a kid, I jumped up on the root ball of a downed tree and fell down the opposite site. Put my right foot on the rump of a 6 month old whitetail. Not sure who was scared more.

I've been in petting distance of more free range whitetails than I could count. Like squinting your eyes close so the wise, old slick head doesn't sling snot on you close lol. Ironically, I have managed to be in the way of three different elk to have to tuck and roll to avoid getting ran over. One raghorn I popped out from behind a tree nose to nose, he darn near stepped on my toes as he swapped ends. Perhaps that's a sign of needing to improve my situational awareness... or patience.. probably both

Well Rancho, you certainly have the stealthy thing down!

I had 7 does and one small buck come walking down the trail I was standing on. Just like a line of moo cows. They looked up, walked off the trail we were all on, went around me, then back on the trail and on their way. Wind was completely wrong, so they had to smell me. Obviously saw me. During whitetail season even.

The closest I've been was a nice 6pt bull during a cow season. I was sitting next to a tree and came trotting out of the woods and stopped with his chin literally over my head. Finally smelled me and blew out. Quite intimidating.

Have had a number of deer within 10'. It's amazing how close they'll get when you're still and have the wind.

Have killed one elk, 2 mule deer and 2 blacktail with rifles inside of 20'.
I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.

My buddy ended up with twin fawns . Doe got hit by a car, in front of a job he was working. Doe delivered a fawn before the CO put her down ,,, CO said just take it home. Next day a call there was another fawn,, he kept them on a electric dog mat , gave them milk replacement. He doesnt mind if they come in the shop,,, but are a nuisance wanting to go into the house.

This guy is as feral as they come but still knows the milk bucket lady. I am glad to see him living a normal wild deer life
