Trip you enjoyed with a twist...

Postby Tigger » 02 10, 2025 •  [Post 1]

After reading about Lefty's Caribbean cruise.....Describe the best trip/vacation you have had ..... that does not include hunting or fishing.

I have liked our cruises, but for some reason I just loved our trip(s) to Rocky Mountain National Park. The first time, got in late and it was dark. Got up early to hopefully see an elk. Oh my gosh, did we see elk! Had close encounters with the beasts that probably led to my addiction (elk hunting, for clarity!).

Best non-animal trip was probably Glacier. Going to the Sun Road is so breathtaking. The Grinnell Glacier hike is my favorite all time.

Wall Drug or MallWart? I guess they are better than a colonoscopy but are on the same side of the scale. I guess my favorite vacations were going to Tucson for Christmas when we lived near Winthrop Washington. Going from waist deep snow and subzero temperatures to the warm sough was a great transition.

We were "Minnesota Lake people All our vacation time as a kids was all hunting and fishing. We worked like fools, then played, fishing, hunting, trapping or skiing at the lake.
Our parents went on Vacations, Visiting family in Canada and Germany, and other typical vacation tours. But us three boys weren't interested

First marriage: our Honeymoon was to Northern Minnesota, Stayed at the brand new Marriot along Lake Superior. a 400 room motel with 6 guests,,, ,,, crazy great.our own chef, waiters etc. That year the Smelt run in Minnesota was extremely poor.
I found smelt in little creeks, Got permission from the tribe and netted a few thousand pounds and gave most to the locals. And brought 800 lbs home to southern Mn. , to keep and give away.

Current wife, Our honey moon was to southern California. Visited with her aunt with cancer, and another aunt and Uncle At that time I had never trapped a bobcat.Passed the California trappers program Set traps and caught another trophy a beautiful Swift fox. Only did three things on that trip, trapped, visited with her family, and did what newlyweds are suppose to do. :D

Otherwise my wife and I its all about wildlife, hunting mostly. Just recently , and being retired there seems to be more room for vacations. . I was telling my brother this morning I had a tough time sitting in a deer stand as a kid,,, and Im good about 10 minutes sitting on a beach,,,, With that said I can nap,, but those generally are less than 10 minutes too.

Long ago I was invited with my FIL buddies to Alaska, me at 35 years old, the others all in their 60s. That fishing trip my big mistake was not buying a $35 rifle and a bear and deer tag on Prince of Wales Island

We always had my in laws place along the wheat fields and a reservoir in Franklin county Idaho. that is where our kids spent time with their cousins. Really an outdoor camp for kids.

Maybe the closest thing to many people's idea of a vacation were my wife and I our ATV trips to southern Utah and Arizona. The surprising outcome for me was one trip ATVing the deserts of Arizona and the even more impressive rides along the Mexico border including the Border Wall. Very very incredible.

Last year my brother and I took a "tour" of Texas and New Mexico. My pleasant surprise/twist my cousin is married to a cowboys running cows on 30,000 acres in the Guadalupe's, of New Mexico,, and they wanted us to trap coyotes and cats,
I had originally planned on looking for a place in Texas to "freelance" sandhill cranes or hunt and fish along the coast. ( never made it that far. )

While I believe every place has a silver lining. One just cant beat the public land of the west, and Lakes of the Upper midwest.

Another surprise, my wife stated this morning we didn't need to go on another cruse. :o
A couple years ago we spent a few days in Teddy Roosevelt National park,,,That was an incredible twist.

If our three daughters had scattered around the USA , instead of sticking around Pocatello, Idaho I would be living back east,,, in South Dakota,,,

Now this thread is making me think of regrets. The house on a SD Lake, the place had been a dinner club: 5 acres, 2300 sq feet, 3 bed 3 bath build in the early 80's 10 boat slips on a Hewitt dock, concrete launch, new asphalt parking,,,

Lefty deserves 3 demerits for each vacation he described that included hunting or fishing!

The year before our first son was born, so it would have been 2016, my wife and I did an all inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. We had enough credit card points to upgrade to first class there and back, which was totally worth it. We imbibed a little too much the first day we were there, learned our lesson, and then had an absolute blast the rest of the time. Made some friends with other guests and spent a lot of time sitting on the beach eating food and enjoying drinks without having to consider how much it cost because it was already paid for. That's one I'd like to do again with her. Started researching one for her 40th birthday next year.

only 2 trips gave details about hunting or fishing. Trapping wasn't mentioned so he will not be awarded demerits for those. So 6 demerits to Lefty which means he has to clean WapitiTalk1, our corporate jet, for 6 months or until someone else gets a demerit, whichever is longer.

Seems fair. I intend to use for Mardi Gras, so he'll have his work cut out for him. I hear Swede is using it for Cinco de Mayo though.... gives me shivers.
