Its that time of the year for planning. Even though for most of us it started after the hunt last fall. This year will be a little bit different for me. One of my hunting partners I have been going with the last 4 years wont be joining me this fall. It has me looking at new options and states out west. Wyoming is the first place I'm looking. Medicine Bow Area is the one I want to ask about on the open forum. I know how it can go about asking specifics, this unit just changed to a draw unit for the first time last year in Wyoming. (type 9) Special PP draw was 6 points. Quota of 3. Regular PP was 6 points and 25% I believe. I'm right there with the points depending on the point creep for this year and the interest involved. The one thing that brought me to this area was a fishing trip I plan on taking this summer. Great middle ground area for me and a few buddies from CO to meet up for some alpine fishing (they don't hunt). I was originally just banking these points and hunting MT but with the possibility of going solo this year it might be a good option to use them. Don't know anyone else building points either, so if anyone is interested in a hunt let me know. Any information about fishing or the elk situation I would sure appreciate some insight.
Still trying to narrow down some areas in Montana that I would like to check out. Last years scouting trip only brought good fishing and small town beers and burgers. Not a bad trip, don't get me wrong. Just didn't find the elk sign we wanted. Moving on to other areas this year and the planning starts now.

I would not burn points on a unit @@ tag personally. If you are willing to spring for special money, apply 31 type1 1st choice and Gen as 2nd. You'll have better than avg odds at the Gen and get a point for next year. Go with your partner next year. If you draw the Gen tag shoot me an email referencing this thread. If you don't draw you have time for other plans.

Geez, I must have been asleep, you can't draw a gen tag as a 2nd choice anymore. Sorry about that. I'll point you to a cpl units.

Actually I don't know a thing about that unit. I just know it must be good hunting because the license is damn near impossible to draw.
