I did a little research, and they did indeed start in Chappell, NE as a furniture store. They then started the catalog business with their amazing customer satisfaction guarantee that has been the heart of their success and consumer loyalty. Once things took off, they relocated to near by Sidney, NE where they purchased an American Legion post building for their corporate headquarters.

Cabelas is a Nebraska state treasure, and much beloved. There is great concern and sorrow in Nebraska with the recent corporate hijacking and investor manipulating. We all think that Sidney Nebraska, which is a great American small town, is screwed. I hope I am wrong.

Other little known Nebraska treasures: Runza, Kool Aid, Dorothy Lynch salad dressing, vice grips.
