Im not sure why, but illegal hunting, out of season, no tag really bother me.
My neighbors got a picture of plates of some fellows who shot with a rifle a bull elk in early Sept. Lots of good evidence, bullets, bullet casings DNA,. good pictures, those guys will be paying a big price

Years back I was moving in to take pictures of a crew who just poached a moose,.. and the CO came out of the brush( took my name , we waited for his backup).
Last season a pickup drove between me and some other hunters while we were working a bull,.. The local CO did some followup
Yesterday while it wasnt what I expected deer hunting,.. some fellows ATVed into where my daughter and I were waiting on a bunch of bucks, Gave the CO the info at the check station and sending the pics coordinates tomorrow.

Its easy enough to make some mistakes, some guys must work at being idiots, however to blatantly do what some do is really a pet-peeve of mine

No excuse for blatant poaching; always do the same when fishing but little action is taken. I know big game is 'different' but poaching is poaching. Good job

Thanks Lefty, and everyone who interrupts their own hunt to bring some heat to poaching scum. I do the same, but I've never seen the level of poaching you describe. I turned in some guys shooting a coyote from a truck on an FS Road, back in the day.

Welcome to my world. 20+ years of law enforcement and I have seen some real hum dingers. Usually drugs and/or alcohol are involved so guys just don't make good decisions.

Thieves, poachers and pedophiles get no tolerance with me.

Plus side my coworkers and I have some pretty good patrol rifles in our cruisers thanks to confiscating them from poachers.

Years ago I came across an old man that was a fire watchman for a logging company. That is the poorest paid job in the woods and is often offered to old ex-loggers. I saw where he had poached a deer, but I acted like I saw nothing. He was poor and had an old pickup and was living in a run down travel trailer.
The ones I distain are those that go out in jacked up hot rod trucks with drug dealer tires, those that go out in twos or threes for recreational killing, those that kill and waste, commercial hunters, and those hunters that kill to try and prove to us they are better hunters than they really are. Over the years, hunting and working for the Forest Service I have come across all of the above.

Somebody occasionally dumps off a doe with nothing but the backstraps taken off near one of my favorite hunting areas. Dump it same place every time. I think theyll be on candid camera soon, then theyre screwed.

Whitey, I found that a "hunter" was doing something similar once too. I turned him in, but don't know what happened. He was using the deer for bear bait. Baiting bears in Oregon is ill eagle. He was also taking firewood from the National Forest daily with no permit. Well at least he was for awhile.

Not the same as out there, but we have a severe problem with turkey hunters poaching around here. We finally caught one this year. We had been watching a 4 bearded gobbler for 3 years, and had him pegged where he was roosting, but could never call him up in front of the gun when he hit the ground. He was a great bird, would have probably made state record or been really close. Two days before season closed, we were set up on him on the roost, he gobbled about 5 times, and a guy shot him out of the tree in the middle of private land. The guy grabbed the bird and took off running, we headed him off at his truck and called the warden, and he got ticketed for trespassing and possession of an illegally taken gobbler. He pled guilty and paid his fines, but I doubt it was much of a deterrent. At the very least, all the local wardens and people that hunt around that area, as well as some of his buddies, know what happened.
