On the road again...

Postby Elkduds » 09 06, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Right now Deanmac is halfway from GA to CO. Good luck and Godspeed to all WTers going On The Road Again. Have an epic hunt, and return safely home to those waiting for you.

8 sleeps for me and off to MT! I vary between feeling like I am prepared to panic stricken that I am not prepared. In some ways, the clock has s-l-o-w-e-d down something terrible (only to speed up during the hunt itself). Then again, when I look at my schedule for the next 8 days, the clock is my enemy and flies by so fast! I was starting to get stuff ready last night and one of my boys asked me to play catch with him (football). A dad can never pass up an opportunity to play football with his 8 year old son, so I got nothing ready for the elk hunt!

Well back home in Georgia and about to get back to normal. LOL

First the drive is a killer, sure would not want to do that again anytime soon.
Up at 4 AM and back to camp after dark sure was a long day. Plus that cot sure did not sleep as good as my bed at home. I will post some pictures when I have a chance to upload.
Had a good trip, saw some elk "4" (1,1, & 2) and bear "3" (1, 1, 1 Chocolate and Black) from the stand. Elk were to far for ML with open sights. Now the bear were close, but I did not have a tag. Sure was nice to watch the bear up close.
Most have walked between 7 and 10 miles a day and the altitude ( mostly 8K to 9.5K) really kicked my tail. It rain on us a couple times and had some hail storms with the ground white with pea size hail.

Camp was nice and we ate good.

Highlight was meeting a forum member and sharing camp with him. (Elkduds) Mark was a super guy and seemed to tolerate a couple GA guys. LOL

Just sitting in the living room looking at the mist coming over the mountains and waiting for opening day of the rifle season here in Montana, then I'll probably just walk down the road a little and do my hunting...

Sorry, I just love rubbing it in sometimes.
